It's not gonna make Mario money, unless January is really that terrible. But does it mean an end of an era if it beats Mufasa?

The leftovers are typically what do well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dump_months https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DumpMonths https://www.boxofficemojo.com/month/january/?grossesOption=calendarGrosses (Compare the other months and you'll notice how much lower it is than say July) Like look at the past few Januaries in terms of calendar grosses, mainly the December leftovers are what did the best. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/month/january/2024/ https://www.boxofficemojo.com/month/january/2023/ https://www.boxofficemojo.com/month/january/2022/ |

Big: Sonic 3 will be competing against the WTFery of Paramount's own Better Man, so yeah, I think January looks good for the blue speedster, too.

In reagrds to Mario, I wonder if the Sonic movies would be even more popular if they were animated, while I like the Sonic movies sometimes I feel they're limited by the fact that they're in live-action. Still, I find it incredible that despite the infamous first trailer for the original movie, the Sonic films have become a sort of new big franchise for Paramount, though I think SEGA should take more advantage of their popularity. As for Mufasa, as other said, Disney hasn't had any luck with sequels to their live-action (even though the Lion King 2019 is computer animated), reimaginings, both the sequels to 2010's Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent were financial dissapointments, and to be fair it seems the public at large are becoming tired of Disney's reimaginings, Dumbo flopped, as well as Mulan (and while that was released during the height of the pandemic, I think it'd be a failure regardless) and The Little Mermaid underperormed. I don't think Snow White will do great either, though perhaps next year's Lilo and Stitch might be a hit |

Mufasa underperforming probably hurts more than that Alice sequel, because The Lion King is a flagship IP for Di$ney.
