The sixth annual New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival event announced on Monday the list of five films that will compete in the festival's Featured Animation Competition, including ON-GAKU: Our Sound, the anime film adaptation of Hiroyuki Ohashi's "ON-GAKU" manga.

The film will open in Japan in January 2020. Ohashi originally self-published "ON-GAKU" in 2005, and it tells the story of young delinquents who decide to start a rock band despite never having touched instruments before.

The other four films competing in the Featured Animation Competition include: Gints Zilbalodis' Away (Latvia), Jérémy Clapin's I Lost My Body (France), Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña's The Wolf House (Chile), and Félix Dufour-Laperrière's Ville Neuve (Canada).

Eight Japanese works will compete in the International Competition category, one Japanese short will compete in the International Competition Family category, and six Japanese works are competing in the Music Animation Competition category. No Japanese works are competing in the Student Competition. The event also has a Japan Competition category with 10 works competing, including Mirai Mizue's "The Dawn of Ape."

The event touts itself as "the world's only airport festival." Cencoroll director and Digimon Adventure tri. character designer Atsuya Uki provided the art for this year's festival poster (pictured below).

The festival will be held from November 1-4.
