posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Actor Rutger Hauer passed away last Friday, July 19 due to an undisclosed illness. He was 75. His family held a funeral on Wednesday.
Hauer is perhaps best known for playing antagonist Roy Batty in the 1982 film Blade Runner. The character's climactic "tears in rain" monologue, which Hauer improvised during the shoot, has been immortalized in pop culture. His career started in 1969 when he worked with director Paul Verhoeven on the Floris television series in 1969, and again on the 1973 film Turkish Delight, which made him well known in the Dutch film industry. Hauer entered Hollywood after that, and acted in such films and television series as Nighthawks, Soldier of Orange, Sin City, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Batman Begins, and True Blood.
In Japanese media, he is notable for voicing the antagonist character Master Xehanort in the English dub of Kingdoms Hearts III, replacing the late Leonard Nimoy in the role.
