Kōji Matsumoto Starts Next Higanjima Horror Manga Sequel
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
This year's 38th issue of Kodansha's Young Magazine is published the first chapter of Kōji Matsumoto's Higanjima: 48-Nichigo... (Nirvana Island: 48 Days Later...) sequel manga on Monday. The manga is the third in Matsumoto's horror manga series and takes place after civilization around the world has collapsed and is now dominated by blood-thirsty vampires. The frightened survivors live in hiding.
The original 33-volume Higanjima manga also inspired a live-action film in 2010 and a live-action series in Japan last year. Funimation released the film on home video in North America in 2011.
Higanjima: Saigo no 47-Hiai (Nirvana Island: The Last 47 Screams) manga ended last month. A television drama adaptation starring Shunya Shiraishi (Gantz, Kaiji 2) as Akira Miyamoto and Ryōhei Suzuki (Kaiji, Gatchaman) as Atsushi Miyamoto, and a second film adaptation are in the works.
