Live-Action Chihayafuru Film Auctions Props, Signed Posters for Charity

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The live-action Chihayafuru: Musubi (Chihayafuru: Conclusion) sequel film will open in Japan on March 17, and the film's staff is holding a charity auction to celebrate. The auction is offering props from the upcoming film and previous two films in the series, as well as posters signed by the main cast.

The first wave of the auction, available through Yahoo! Auctions's reU funding program, launched on Wednesday and is running until March 21. The second wave will run from March 22-29. The auction was aiming to raise 200,000 yen (about US$1,900). Although six days remain until bidding on the first wave of items closes, current bids total 549,749 yen (about US$5,178), far surpassing the goal.

The first wave of the auction includes items such as a Tokyo championship cup trophy, a set with materials related to the Tokyo preliminary competition, karuta club posters, a Daddy Bear bento box, and a national championship name banner. The most popular item so far is the trophy, which is leading with a 90,720-yen bid (about US$850) after 96 bids.

After covering fees and expenses, the proceeds from the auction will go to the 24-Hour Television Charity Committee. The national organization supports welfare, environmental, disaster-reconstruction, and other charitable causes.

Incidentally, Chihayafuru manga creator Yuki Suetsugu is searching for art previously donated and auctioned for charity. Suetsugu hopes to borrow and display the items at the "Chihayafuru no Sekai ~Suetsugu Yuki Hatsu Genga-ten~" (The World of Chihayafuru: Yuki Suetsugu's First Original Art Exhibit) exhibition, which will open in Tokyo on March 23.
