Defend Your Client in the Ace Attorney Real Escape Game

posted on by Karen Ressler
Spirit medium village has a murder mystery to solve

The Ace Attorney games and anime adaptation are inspiring a Real Escape Game titled "Reibai Mura Satsujin Jiken" (Spirit Medium Village Murder Case) this summer.

Yūki Kaji (the voice of Phoenix Wright/Ryūichi Naruhodō in the anime) and Aoi Yūki (the voice of Maya Fey/Mayoi Ayasato in the anime) recorded original lines for the game, but not necessarily for the story: players who participate in the game will get a fan with an audio recording of their "OBJECTION" to sharing answers to the riddles online.

The official website opened on Wednesday and describes the game's story:

A murder case has happened at the world-famous "village where master spirit mediums gather." All evidence pointed to a certain person, and that person even admitted it. However, there was one person who denied the suspect's guilt. It was the soul of the victim, who possessed a master spirit medium. Believing in the single message— "That person was not the one who killed me!"—Ryūichi Naruhodō prepares the defense with his assistant, you. Is the real criminal someone else there? Why is the suspect confessing? The trial is one hour from beginning to end. Can you succeed and turn the trial around to a "not guilty" verdict?

The game will run from July 8 to September 4 in Tokyo. It will also open in Nagoya from July 29-August 28, in Osaka from July 15-August 28, and in a number of other Japanese cities where the dates have not yet been announced. Tickets can be preordered beginning on May 13.

SCRAP is developing the game with collaboration from Bad News, Yomiura TV, A-1 Pictures, and CAPCOM.

The Real Escape game is well-timed: the Ace Attorney anime premiered earlier this month and, and next game in the series will ship in Japan on June 9.

Other franchises that have been converted into real escape games include Case Closed, Attack on Titan and Zero Escape.
