Get a Closer Look at the Attack on Titan Live-Action Films' Setting

Japan's Hashima Island (otherwise known as Gunkanjima, or "Battleship Island") is one of the filming sites for the upcoming Attack on Titan live-action films. Known for its many dilapidated buildings, the now abandoned piece of history was recently filmed by drones. The footage gives a sneak peak at some of the landmarks that might appear when the films open next summer.
The video itself was filmed in 4K-resolution, dubbed as "Ultra HD." Japan is planning to be on the forefront of 4K broadcasts to spur demand for new televisions.
The video shows locations that could easily translate to Titan-led destruction, including school rooms, collapsed homes, and industrial buildings.
The island is located in the Nagasaki prefecture and was actually populated until the 1970s, serving as part of Japan's coal mining industry for almost 100 years. The concrete building and apartment complex seen in the video were some of Japan's first. The mine closed when the demand for coal was pushed out by the burgeoning oil industry. With no source of jobs on the 16-acre island, its inhabitants left.
