That's right folks,the card game is still going strong even to this day.I was at a party not too long ago,and I heard people talking about Yu-Gi-Oh card tournaments (of all things) still being held.I said "What the ****,are you kidding me?"He said "not at all" and told me that some of the tournament prizes included up to $5000.  That's a nice little addiction Upper Deck introduced to that generation.Hell,I could only imagine what trauma their children will endure in the future.

You sure about that? IIRC, Konami specifically insisted that UDE not offer cash prizes for Yu-Gi-Oh!, because they didn't want to run afoul of gambling ordinances. That's one of the reasons they brought out VS, actually: they thought they could revitalize the market by offering their Yu-Gi-Oh players a newer, better-designed game that you could actually win substantial prizes for. (For the record: You can't.) |

I remember when I used to save my lunch money so I could buy a pack of cards from 7-eleven. When I look back at it now, I somewhat regret buying them. Although it was strong in the past, I don't really know anyone now who still plays it besides cheating 8-year olds.

Plus you had people buying cases of those cards just to get the rare and powerful ones and selling the other cards. I'm surprised that any kid other than the ones spending major bucks could win anything.

I remember the day of saving my allowance and then going to a 7-Eleven to buy a pack of cards as well. I suppose those days are long over since ebay became more popular and the fact I don't hear much news about card games anymore.
I don't think the hobby has become completely nonexistant, but a friend of mine whose been a card collecter for several years now tells me that card games aren't as popular as they used to be. Just like Pog's though. That was real popular in the 80's, but like most popular fads, it eventually became a thing of the past. |

Yes. As a player of Yu-Gi-Oh! Online who doesn't invest all that much, I can tell you that good deck building skills and playing skills can make you win against "better" decks. You don't need the "best" cards to win, although you do need decent cards (especially the more common staple cards). Oh, and if you play like that, you will start to HATE certain cards, such as Heavy Storm. |

Are you insane? It's Konami that let 4Kids practically control the franchise in the first place. UDE has been trying their damnedest to rebel against their idiocy. |

Given how Konami is currently about this whole ordeal, I don't think this is the case. They themselves want to make money on the franchies. Without Upper Deck, 4Kids will not have any part of the profits of the card game, which is what is the main reason they have kept the Yugioh anime in the first place. So... Trust me, things change after awhile. |

It's a marketing machine, and the cogs happen to be Konami, Upper Deck, and 4Kids. If any of those cogs are removed from the machine, it will stop working.
So for anyone who STILL cares about this franchise (I'm...surprised people still do, but hey), don't hope one guy or another falls because you'll end up screwed in the end. |

I haven't really been paying a huge amount of attention to what's been happening (as I'm only a casual player, and legal stuff like this makes my head spin), but from what I understand: if UDE get their way, Konami are gonna be $75 million out of pocket and nothing will change. If Konami win, UDE are screwed and we'll probably be seeing some differences in the way things are run in the TCG (same card pools as the OCG, with any luck). If Konami do win, they're not gonna screw us over as bad as all the competitive players are worrying. They want to make money, and messing up the game isn't going to help any. x_x |

Konami doesn't NEED to give a crap who wins or loses. They have Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid to milk, so what's it to them to lose a battle over a ten-year-old card franchise they mostly churn out video games for? |
