Cool, that means the graphic novels will come out faster! Wonder what impact that might have on the anime.

Aww. I know Shonen Jump has been rotating their roster for awhile now (and how would they promote their various SJ translated series if they didn't?) but it's still a bit of a bummer to not have the same series complete their runs in the magazine.

That's really great news about the AGA though. I must confess HnG was my first exposure as well.

Bah, that sucks. Hikaru no Go is my favorite manga running in Shonen Jump and it (and I guess Yu Yu Hakusho) are the only 2 reasons I've let my subscription continue (that and they gave me 3 years free for some reason lol). Since they're not publishing Hikaru No Go anymore, Ill probably drop my subscription when it finally ends in May and start up Megami Magazine.

That's too bad. I like reading HnG, but not enough to buy it separately. I have absolutely no interest in Slam Dunk, but I may as well give it a shot which I'm guessing is exactly what Viz wants to hear.

I hadn't expected this, but in retrospect I probably should have. I said in a thread some months ago that HnG is good stuff but years past it's prime. And it's not particularly memorable, either- although lately they've been doing some interesting stories, I still forget about it almost entirely between one issue and the next. With some of the newer titles Vis has coming out, it's reasonable to expect that they'd do some culling.

My guess is that YYH is the next to go to the chopping block- now that they have Slam Dunk, they presumably don't need it to carry the torch of the old-school fandom. But if that happens, it might turn out to be a misstep. Sports anime generally doesn't sell well with American fans, we do that stuff in childhood with the Bad News Bears and it's spiritual descendants. Sometimes we do it again as grown-up fans, but grown anime fans and sports fans don't really overlap that much.

If it were me making these decisions, I'd axe Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. To be honest, though, that's not good business. despite the jeers of older fans, that series seems to have some fight left in it still.

I'd love GX to get booted, too, but my feeling is that Bleach will eventually be next, cus they want to sell as many GNs of those as possible.

Aw. Shame to see it go. It's a great anime and manga. One of the best shonen series I've seen/read IMO. But it was never going to be a big hit in the NA market. I'd like to see boxsets of the anime released @.@

Aw, this is the worst news I've heard all week. Shonen Jump has been doing a lot of things to get on my nerves lately, and this may be the last straw. I've been a subscriber since the first issue, but I don't know if a subscription is worth it anymore. Hikaru no Go was definitely my favorite manga in there...

While this news might be bad for some people, I'm absolutely delighted to see Slam Dunk finally being brought over. I have been a fan of Slam Dunk since the first volume came out in Chinese but haven't got a chance to finish it due to various reasons. But this is a blessing from above. Thanks Viz!
