Another legend gone.
R.I.P. You have given so much.

Now I don't want to sound messed up but the article tells you what he succumbed to and then you have "THAT" picture. Very Happy Sorry about that. I had to get that out.

Never knew this guy was behind 'Gatchaman'. I enjoyed that show growing up. Eventually, I'll sit down and watch the entire run. Good to know he lived a very productive life.

It is always sad to see one of of the old guard go these days. But he lived a long life. So I am sure he went with peace.

Liver cancer is linked more to drinking than it is to smoking. And no, not everyone who gets liver cancer drinks heavily.

Rest his soul? What did it say? He worked on Tetsuwan Atom? You, know in America, "Astro Boy"? That was the first anime with an ongoing story. So, he was involved with anime from the time when it first came into the phenomenon it is today.

I don't mean to be insensitive to the passing away of an anime legend, or anything...

But the first thing that came to my mind when I heard of this news was that he's just in time to start rolling in his grave with that new live action Speed Racer abomination.

But seriously, all of that aside, he truly was a great man. I don't mean any disrespect. In anything, i'm lamenting the disgrace of the hollywood "Speed Racer" film that is still probably in production.

At the very least, that terrible looking film (judging by those trailers) had better have a credit tribute to him. Even if it means having to sit through it. >_>

Ah another legend passes on.... He gave me many good childhood memories....

It's too bad he did not live to see the live action Speed Racer movie... Good or bad, its still an honor to have your works made into a live action movie.

Another Awesome person whom helped bring (by the work that he did) us awesome stories to our childhood. May He Rest In Peace.

Last Year I finally got The first Series of Gatchaman on dvd. I hope that one day ADV or any other anime company will bring the other 2 Gatchaman tv shows to R1 DVD.

I even bought the Gatchaman Graffitti artbook too from Hobby Links Japan, the same week I got the dvd's.

Like all the others he will live on thru the stories and anime that he worked on and was a part of.

Rest in peace. Two of my fondest memories as a child were watching Gatchaman and Speed Racer as a child, I actually have some Gatchaman episodes taped from when Boomerang was airing the series, I think I'll watch them tonight to pay tribute to him.

My favorite anime series ever is G-force....to the purist, its suppost to be Gatchaman....but i grew up on the USA version...not even the BattleOfThePlanets version...just G-Force.

I never got to see what happened next in that series....damn Galactor, as he or it was called. he was the main villian.

That was my "gi joe" lol, thats what i watched and loved.

God bless Toriumi

Yeah, I know.

Ah still sad though. I also find this strange hearing this news considering that there's a new 'Gatchman' movie. Again 'BoTP' was one of my faves and I just bought the entire 'Gatchman' series so I have to sit down and watch it eventually. I'm glad to have known of one of the veterans that worked on it.

Was he involved with a company called Studio Toriumi?

I hope so. The cheeky "hidden image" stunts they pulled on the Alf cartoon -and hot water they got in for doing it- made them my heroes forever.

Long story short... back in the 80s, there was a cartoon spinoff of the Alf sitcom, called AlfTales if memory serves me. Not a bad cartoon for its time. In one episode, something blows up and in the middle of the explosion various oddball images go by including an American flag. Not unlike the common "beer can missile" gag we've all seen, or the occasional explosion with the word "boom" hidden inside.

Somebody's parent caught this flag image, still-framed the show, wrote angry letters to NBC, who went nuts and stomped all over Studio Toriumi, executives of which said they were just trying to have a little fun with the otherwise pedestrian contract animation.

TV Guide -yes that TV Guide- actually did a feature story on this, circa 1986 or so.
