It should depend on the publisher really. But for me,

Tokyopop = $10
Viz = Varies, from $8 for the Shonen Jump GN to $10 for others, and still more for $15

I don't many others because I don't buy their titles.

$10-15 depending on which manga it is. Basically whatever the MSRP printed on the cover is.

MSRP. So basically about $14.99 for Viz titles, $9.99 for everyone else.

Geez Viz, get with the times. Razz

Stop flipping the damn things, too. Rolling Eyes

As with everyone else, i pay the MSRP that's printed on the manga i buy. This runs anywhere from $7.95 to around $15 for Viz, $10 for Tokyopop, and about $15-$20 for Dark Horse. But if you buy it online, like at amazon.com, you can sometimes get it cheaper (or in my case, i get it from a Japanese hobby shop where the guy who runs it gives me a 10% discount since i buy so much from him Anime smile).

Although i have to admit at times i think anything over $10 is too much, but if it's a good manga i will pay for it.

If you change it to dollars it would be about 4$ tops. Except for Ghost in the Shell - that was about 12$. But almost all titles - about 4$

Well then how come every copy of X, Inu-Yasha, and Evangelion I find is still $15? If they're lowering prices, they should start with older properties.

The prices for mangas in my area are...
Viz $3-16
Tokyopop $9-14
Darkhorse $14-20
CPM $9-14
I'm not sure about the rest of the publishers

Also, the publisher that isn't getting with the times is Dark Horse because they're still selling their mangas $14 and up.

Those are the older editions of the titles. Viz has released cheaper second editions of their older titles such as X and Inu-Yasha. Your comic store must be trying to get rid of their older stock.

Ask for the second editions or order them online.

I pay 10% off the MSRP because I get stuff from Barnes and Noble.

The prices I've seen most are:
10 for Tokyopop and some Viz(2nd edition Ranma 1/2)
9 for other Viz, 2nd edition Inuyasha, other titles.
8 for SJ manga

I haven't seen much older versions of Viz and other publishers.

One thing I noticed is that my SUncoast was doing 2, get 1 free for all Viz titles they had. Too bad most of thier manga was Tokyopop when I got to it.

One question, how much does Manga usually cost in Japan? I heard its about 40% of all published novels, so I assume its closer to the price of normal paper backs, like around 5$ a GN. Is this close, or am I way off?

Well, it really depends, but it's always the MSRP on the back. It can fluxuate, though. For instance, my Zoids manga goes for $5, but a lt of the Viz stuff goes for $15. I don't get Dark Horse because I like to finish the series I'm working on before I start a new one, and I'm already doing 9 series. It's mainly $9.95 for what I get because I get a load of Tokyopop

Yeah and Dark Horse still has the problem of very slowly releasing it's manga (like about one every 3 months). With Viz and Tokyopop it's no problem if one or two of their series are released slowly because there are so many mangas that i get from them, but the only Dark Horse mangas that i like are Oh My Goddess and Trigun. But at least they have learned to *finally* start printing the volume numbers on the covers. Both Viz and DH had a bad habit of not doing that. And if i'm not mistaken, CPM still has a bad habit of not doing that with some of its manga.

I pay the MSRP usually. Sometimes they're having a deal "Buy one get the second half off" or something.
