How cool of such a family to recreate Shishio's sword for the RK exhibit. Goes to show how loved RK is in Japan to get that honor, especially to this day just by looking at the manga and movie reception, plus the new remake anime.

Good workmanship! Despite Japan's dragonian modern laws concerning swords there's still swordsmiths that keep the tradition alive and pass it to the next generation.

Article doesn't have a picture, but the Yomiuri Shimbun site in the article does if someone wants to have a look. It's a bit small though.

Not as much of a big deal there, not too long since underage gravure idol material/CP got prohibited by the Japanese government. And theye even gave people time to surrender the material they have in hands under a certain period of time.

It's frowned upon by society, but they usually give people a slap in the wrist for possession (compared to the actual act or "business"). There's even a gray zone to this day for magazines for lolicon/shotacon content (Comic LO, Comic Rin, etc...) in manga format, and those go as far as toddlercon.

There's no 'gray about it, those are legal, they're fiction. And the Comic RiN magazine has been discontinued for years now..

The laws went into effect a decade ago. Not sure how you can sit there and justify making excuses.

Comic Rin was just an example of such kind of magazine, I never said it was still publishing (I think there are at least other 5 still active with this sort of content in them, and if that is what bother you I could list them instead of the 2 arguably most well known).

At any rate, it IS a gray area ever since the legislation passed, which has said content be allowed solely for being, as you well said, fiction, and only because of that (the Japan Federation of Bar Associations being usually the sole defender of press freedom for loli/shota publishing -while also usually talking about how said content actually diminishes the amount of child sexual abuse related crimes- and the article on itself being ambiguous at best when it comes to defining "obscenity" clauses).

It's basically the only way you get around selling this sort of content, despite a general overview on the situation in the late 00s were asking for them to be applied to anime and manga anyway (but it just didn't pass). It may be technically legal, but mostly because they are stalled in this regard, but it is by definition a gray area at the current moment.

@Sakurafire_
Also nobody here is making excuses or defending how it goes, just saying that's how Japan works, and I don't think it will change too soon, they will stall this issue forever because of their freedom of speech and press article not giving any exact limits when it comes to ideas/fiction, compared to real life stuff.

* Siiiiiggghhhh... * Okay, so... While I have little to no respect towards Watsuki nowadays due to that one stunt with CP, quite a few people still very much enjoy Rurouni Kenshin because, and here's the point, they can separate an author and their works from one another. Just because the author is a scumbag, doesn't mean I shouldn't enjoy their works. While RuroKen may not have aged all that gracefully, it's still a very noteworthy series amongst the 90's Shonen Jump catalogue. I'm quite excited about the new remake and the series definitely deserves a fresh coat of paint.

But I guess I must be one of the odd ones out,,

Hum... Yes, because it has nothing to do with the current purpose of this article.

This sword will always keep a special spot in my memories due to the huge threat it represented when I was young... After witnessing the Heroes defeating the (remarkly strong) sub-boss with lots of efforts and stress, we were already wondering what could the final boss have more than the previous stage to be able to beat Kenshin & co... The answer was not only a huge/strong will but also, this iconic "fire" sword !

So yes, I don't care about those stuff you mentionned, because it's not correlated to the article, but only valuable for people obsessed with mind control over the others

Not ignoring it but it does get redundant to constantly mention Watsuki got a slap on the wrists whenever a Rurouni Kenshin thread or something involving some manga artist/writer getting popped on a sexual assault charge.

I have to look into the legality of owning a sword in my area, but I'd love to have a high quality replica like this. And one made by a noted duo of swordsmiths no doubt.
