I disagree that the show live or die based of the basic premise, I think the premise is hilarious and full of potential. However the show seemed to disagree and it felt like they were doing everything they could to avoid using it. I think half the joke in the first half follow the exact same formula of one of the mascot actor making fun of Uramichi for having no hobby outside working out, then Uramichi showing up and intimidating him just for him to go back home and work out... Wasn't really funny the first time and it didn't get any funnier with repetition. There's probably enough material to make an excellent 12 episodes 5 minutes short show, but as is they're just too many segments that aren't funny, are repetitive and really drag on long after you've figured out what the punchline will be.

It's about time my favorite show of 2021 got itself a review on this site. Though part of me's relieved that it took so long to begin with. Part of me was thankful it didn't get picked up for streaming reviews (mostly because of Capellini's character and my typical unease at reading reviewers act offended at offensive content), and my reaction to that elephant in the room as it was covered was as expected: understanding of the viewpoint presented, disappointed at the predictable dissatisfaction, and relieved that it didn't mar the rest of the review too badly.
I would also recommend checking out the dub; it manages to mix together the practices of direct translation, creative localization, punching up the dialogue, and the occasional use of untranslated Japanese words, and manages to make it work in a similar way to how Together with Maman works. All the VAs do a great job, especially Ray Chase as Usahara and JYB as Kikaku (and yes, there may be a little bit of bias in there). |

Thanks for the review! I want to note one thing, that most of the reviewers of the first episode way back at the beginning of season missed, that becomes clear in later episodes: Uramichi really likes working with children and children in general, despite of how much this jobs eats away at him.
When he's cynical at kids, it's not because he's angry at them for his misfortune, despite it's inappropriateness his cynicism comes from his heart, and in later episodes we see how much he cares trying to keep children happy and innocent despite being one of the biggest risk to their innocence himself. |

Loved this hilarious show and I'm glad I gave it a chance. While not every episode knocks it out of the park, it's the only comedy in recent memory that's had me literally laughing out loud during multiple episode.
My favorite bit has to be the father's day drawings 
I hope we can get a second season some day =) |

While I like the manga a lot (not as much as Torimania, also by Kuze, and one of the most underrated manga I've read - but a lot) I just didn't enjoy the anime. I think overall my issue is that the writing and direction just weren't able to successfully pull off adapting the manga, with its brand of humor, its pacing, etc. to animation. The pacing, the visuals, somehow it all felt off. Perhaps it improved later on, but in the first episodes I found it grating enough to drop it.
Another thing that kind of bothered me was the realization that I'm just kind of over Kamiya Hiroshi in roles like this. He's been a go-to in similar comedies lately, and it's reached the point where he's basically just doing "Kamiya Hiroshi doing [Role X]". |

I gave the show a look but pretty quickly checked out on it. I think it kind of doesn't properly utilize the premise; it sort of constantly lays it on thick and leans into it when it feels like it'd be substantially funnier if it were more of just kind of an undercurrent.

Knowing that wouldn't have changed my opinion much. I've heard (and participated in) break room and happy hour conversations that wouldn't have been at all out of place in the show; nobody parties harder or has darker sense of humor than preschool teachers. |

One of the things that I think might have been interesting to explore more was how Urumichi ended up having to take a job that wasn't especially related to his gymnastics to support himself. It's indicated that gymnastics was something his father pushed him to do, and he was good enough and dedicated enough to get a college scholarship for it, but it's not the type of thing that was going to extend much beyond that.
