In Samurai Warriors 5, movesets are attached to weaponry, and each character only has a single combo unique to themselves, unlocked by equipping them with their designated weapon.

That;s a weirdly dumb choice... Are they trying to have so many character at the same time and so they have to rely on this sort of cost cutting measure or something?

Honestly I find the dynasty franchise has just been slowly dropping in quality since its heyday with Dynasty warrior 3 and the first samurai warrior.

Attack of the clones. Koei has gotten so lazy it's not even funny. If you're going to have a smaller roaster at least make everyone 100% unique.

I can usually tell pretty quickly when a new Musou game is gonna be good or not, and my first and immediate impression when booting up the SW5 demo was that Nobunaga felt like he was carrying a sack of weights through a puddle of quicksand.

Compared to booting Persona Strikers for the first time and the feeling of Joker zipping around, racking up combos with coherent move strings and a great dodge system, none of what the review mentions even begins to touch upon the most deepest, core issue of the game - it doesn't feel good.

If I go back to SW2XL or either one of the Chronicles games, you can cast self-buffs and Nobunaga will start teleporting and lighting stuff on fire with each sword slash for some really satisfying combos with a fair amount of utility. On SW5 I suddenly feel like I'm playing Streets of Rage 1 when other Samurai Warriors titles have felt morel like modern Street Fighter.

I'm not willing to completely write it off yet. As panned as Dynasty Warriors 9 was at launch, it's a fun and functional take on "What if Skyrim but.... Musou (and no mods, lol)?" - if SW5 gets an XL version or an Empires release and a string of additional weapons makes the game feel better, I'd be willing to have another look. All Musou games are better with level 20+ characters and harder difficulty, but for now, the game feels incredibly unfinished and I'd rather just play literally any other game with Samurai Warriors characters appearing in it.
