This really sounds like he's saying that the upcoming third movie will have a different ending.

I thought it was already confirmed that they were working on the third season before these films ever came out.
I figured they were going to pull something like this when they said Akito the Exiled was "more canon than you might think". |

I have heard some spoilers for the third film, and there are indeed some significant differences - namely, spoiler[Shirley is still alive.] It seems it's basically the same, but with stuff like that sprinkled in. So I suppose that's a way of preserving the original TV series outcome and splitting off, as mentioned there.
I have been surprised and impressed by a bunch of stuff with Okouchi's name on it lately, so I am more interested in this than before. |

There are a lot of differences between the movies and TV series, as pointed out in this article.
It doesn't surprise me they're doing a separate continuity; as much as people refuse to accept it, Taniguchi always wanted Lelouch to stay dead. This is the best way to bring him back without hurting the original series' ending. |

The explanations from the creators make sense. I am not sure how to feel about these movies possibly altering the original story. On the one hand the changes will probably spoiler[make it more plausible to justify "reviving" Lelouch]. But I wanted to see continuation from R2 to the new series.
I am hoping for the new show to be good and only two cours long because the original 50 episodes feel bloated and 10-13 episodes too long. And thanks to animefanworried for the link; it was helpful. It would be nice if Funimation could release the compilation films on BD before the new show premiers. |

That linked article is extremely misleading and taking things entirely the wrong way.
Xingke and Lihua are still in the third movie, for example (don't remember if they were in the second). If something wasn't shown in the new movies that doesn't mean that it didn't happen. The only significant difference in this continuity is that spoiler[Shirley doesn't die]. With any other change, it's as if they cut a piece out - for time - and then smoothed over the rough edges that leaves. That does not mean it didn't happen. Or, even if it didn't - say, if Mao didn't come and kidnap Nunnally - that doesn't mean that the things that episode showed about Lelouch and Suzaku's relationship are any less valid. Also, spoiler[Lelouch still dies in the end. The Zero Requiem scene] is essentially exactly the same. And afterwards? In the stinger? spoiler[There is no cart.] C.C. is alone with spoiler[just the donkey she's riding on. No cart, no driver.] Also, in canon, spoiler[Lelouch's body was put onto the Damocles fortress, which was thrown into the sun,] and the new ending song has the line "Is it better just to burn and fade away?" right when that's shown. Like... spoiler[to get resurrected, you sort of have to die first.] |

Well if Lelouch has Charles' Code anything is possible.

This. But now I'm confused: is the Code Geass sequel supposed to be a movie or another season? |
