Man, if you follow through to the YT video, people be hating hard on the project. Some of it seems like fair complaints, but the guy clearly is not beloved by people in Japan anymore than he is here, and they will do their best to make sure he knows it. Really surprised comments are even enabled, to be honest.

With so much rash negativity being shown in the dislikes of the PV, I have an ominous feeling that the show could suffer a premature end before it even has a chance to start...

No, it's based on his personality and past behavior. Following up on a record breaking film with a similar setting is a small part of it, but people really just don't like Yamakan because he has proven himself to be a general asshole much of the time. Recently he admonished an idol after they got attacked by a crazy fan, he got in an internet fight with Seiji Mizushima on twitter over something dumb, and he often criticizes anime as being dead, or dying. There is a reason that he got fired from KyoAni.
