Dang, I'm sad to see that Osomatsu-San isn't on the anime list. It was one of my favourite anime of last year.

Maybe next year, since it's in that same Fall-to-Winter scenario as Shirobako was last year. Interesting seeing how the ones who won differ from the Intermediate results |

I'm suprised Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun counted...seems too far back?
Anyway, I'm really sad to see KimiUso getting so much praise. I really dont' get what people see in it. Kousei's "issue" is utter bullocks and is completely unrealistic and unrelatable while Kaori's entire story was predictable since episode 1 and then dragged out so much that it just felt forced. The best part of the anime was really Nagi's character development. I imagine I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't already seen a dozen or so other anime like it in the past decade, but it's far from original. It's just the same spoiler[dying girl] trope with musical theme added to it. |

There are some shows that even if you don't like, you can't fail to see why many others do. Do you play an instrument? Then you would probably appreciate the effort and struggle that the characters went through to train themselves, executed by the show very successfully. You ever had a childhood friend deciding to move away, or have been that friend? Tsubaki's character arc, inner struggle, and development demonstrated that extremely well. Ever try super hard at your studies to be in the same class or school with that girl or guy you like? The show employed symbolisms (black cat, white dove, beach, etc) that could let you find new meaning in them even if you watch a 2nd or 3rd time. Comparing Kousei at the beginning of the show to Kousei at the end of the show for successful character development. Sound, music, and visuals were nothing short of amazing. {Edit}: There's no need to insult someone directly when disagreeing with their opinion. Furthermore it's very disingenuous and makes you seem like at best a hypocrite, or at worst a flat out liar, to claim to respect someone's opinion and then insult them personally. ~ Psycho 101 |

I don't think its just the story they look at when handing out these awards. Musically it was really well done and the art was amazing. While the story did fall in line with some of the more used tropes, it's the relationship between Kousei and Kaori that really did it for me. spoiler[Kousei's inability to move forward was due to the conditioning he was placed under by his Mother. Also keep in mind there's a cultural difference with who Japan approaches familial relationships then how another culture perceives that type of relationship. To Kousei, he loved his mother so much that when she started being abusive due to her rapid decline, he felt obligated to take it regardless. Not to mention the music scene pressure on a child his age had to be immense.] The psychological toll that Kousei was under for the course of the series made sense, at least to me. I do suggest reading the manga. Not sure how much extra it will have to expand the characters but its worth a shot.[/spoiler] |

{Edit}: I removed your post for the over the top and completely unneeded foul mouthed ranting that was 90% of the post. Next time you feel someone is being rude simply report them or PM a staffer. Do not go on some expletive riddled OT rant. ~ Psycho 101

I'm also happy Shigatsu as Kimi no Uso was well as Shirobako, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU and the Haikyuu!! manga, Shirobako was definitely the one I found most insightful, enjoying it while learning more about the industry.

Hmm, If we go by story and character development then for a musical genre, Piano no Mori/Beck is better than Shigatsu. I think it won because of the quality of animation rather than the plot though.

I agree. Judging by plot, there are maaany better anime with musical genre than Shigatsu. Sakamichi no Apollon and Nodame are better imo. Well it's just imo. imo. But since Sugoi Japan is a yearly award and Shigatsu was pretty popular last year so yeah... |

Bought and paid for publicity by the looks of it. Lots of garbage in these lists IMO and not things I would imagine Japan wants the international community to look at because I doubt the response would actually be favorable for anything other than maybe Shirobako. I can only take the Japan Academy Awards seriously pretty much.
It's melodramatic dreck that will be forgotten about in time IMO and pretty much agree that trope makes it far to easy to gain critical acclaim. Doubt people would be praising it much without the dying girl trope or the child abuse one (notice A-1 uses the exact same type of material to the same kind of critical acclaim a little over a year later with Bokumachi) that Japan and sentimental anime fans just eat up every single time. As harsh as it is to say I think the kind of people that get the most out of this kind of stuff are the sorts of people that like to sit around feeling sorry for themselves all the time and thus can relate to it better I suppose. {Edit}: I removed your last part responding to the OT ranting. No need to "poke the bear" and simply stoke fires instead of ignoring them and moving on. ~ Psycho 101 |
