I have to wonder if the FMA movie won because it was FMA, not because of the content of the film...

The Full Metal Alchemist Movie was great. It definitely deserved to win. I don't know what exactly it was going up against, but from what I can think that it was going up against, it deserved to win. It had a good plot and for once in the Full Metal Alchemist story, the ending was somewhat happy. It was a great movie, no doubt about that.

While the FMA movie is good, I didn't think it was on the same level as the series, let alone some of the other stuff from 2005. I'm extremely surprised to see it win best music ahead of stuff like Mushishi. FMA's music was pretty standard fare.

I also think that it would be extremely valuable to have the list of the entrants for this year's awards. Howl's Moving Castle, Gankutsuou, Steamboy and GitS2: Innocence were among the winners in 2005.

I'm glad mushishi won. One of the best anime series I've seen in awhile for story advancement.

Really? Honestly, it all comes down to opinion.

I could not believe while sitting through that movie that anyone could think it was good. Seems more like all of the numerous FMA fanboys/girls *want* to think it's so great because it's Fullmetal Alchemist.

But if you all liked it, that's fine. I still think it's terrible.

I never understood the attraction of Eureka 7. It just seemed terribly shonen for my taste, what with giant robots, sky-surfing and 10 year-old protagonists. Kinda like Air Gear, which lacks depth and maturity despite the great artwork.

That's the thing, people have different tastes. I do not like FMA, some people love it. To me it just seemed overly pretentious, and the drama came off as very forced. From the second half on, I couldn't stand it. I thought it had a very strong start and a bad ending. Now, if anime starts of slow and builds a lot and ends great, that's good storytelling. Starting off good and losing steam, until crashing down at the end is not in my opinion. I really wanted to like it, honest! I prefer the manga. I don't care if the anime wanted to be different, I just didn't like the direction BONES took.

Some people love Evangelion and some hate it. We've all got our unique tastes, and that's what makes everything more interesting. : )

Mushishi deserves any acclaim it gets; it is one of the more original anime of the last few years and very well done.

The FMA movie on the other hand...it seemed like a cash-in to me...but then I thought the second half of the series went downhill steadily as well.

Your loss. It's probably one of the best shows of the past decade. Incredible character development that result in some of the most fulfilling episodes of anime i've ever seen, phenomenally directed action sequences, a great story with great writing that while remaining accesible to a wide audience is layered enough as to be enjoyed on many levels. Seriously one of the most engaging and well told stories i've ever seen in an anime.

Mushishi is also fantastic, but a different kind of show that offers a much different sense of fulfillement. Definitely some great choices in these awards.

Mushishi is the true winner.

But wait, no AIR?

Hey, have you even read air gear? (and I don't mean crappy scanslations) It's redeaming value is the humor.

ah, AIR... beatiful animation... storyline derived from a pedophilic bishoujo game ... yeah, that's a winner all right... Anime cry Seriously, just because it's anime doesn't mean you have to watch it.

Only since the beginning. Stopped reading it around vol. 10, but I still buy them for the art. AG has its moments, but even after 12 volumes, I find it to be pretty shallow.

Well, Air TV's storyline is probably as good as the winners. Air's music is great imo. But, you could have a point in that the judges chose to go with a "safe" title.

If only we knew what titles were in the competition....
