Yeah, what he said. Bushido is basically a romantization of the samurai, who wasn't all high and mighty.

And our image of courtly knighthood is just as much romantization of the knights and squires who were in fact very nasty and not very chivalrous. Chivarly was an attempt to reign in the bloodlust of the knights. I highly doubt you will find a culture who didn't romantize it's warrior class.
It is a unhealthy tendancy to look at the past with rose colored glasses and one that needs to be fixed. |

Episode 9 was a great episode, reminiscent of the Cowboy Bebop fan-favorite episode Mushroom Samba. "High spiritual experience" indeed.
The episode with Jin and the prostitute really surprised me with how well it was directed. For some reason, every Saturday night I go to watch Champloo on Adult Swim, I remind myself that it's another stand-alone episode, which isn't usually good in my mind. But then, the episodes are directed so well that I get completely drawn in; this was especially true in episode 11. It seems that Champloo is getting just as many awesome episodes as Bebop did. |
