The original Japanese dubbing had Osaka accents, so ADV decided that they should probably do something similar and give the English voices an accent. Not being American I wouldn't know what kind of accent they tried to use. Personally I think it worked pretty well unlike many other attempts at giving English dubbing accents.
I hope you guys didn't lose too much of the original footage though cutting and editing, I can't imagine too much will be taken out but I'm pretty certain something will be cut as there quite a few scenes come to mind that should be cut in later episodes. The Hollywood episode is so funny

It's a southern accent. And yep, that's their way of dubbing an Osaka accent, or dialect I should say. Much like Osaka in AzuDai. It's one of the easiest way to distinguish an accent, and much better then some of the Brooklyn accents I have heard used. (no offense to anyone from there). |

Did anyone but me notice that the theme music sounded off? It was way too fast. It ran about four seconds short at 240 beats per minute instead of the original 228 bpm.
If you have pro quality recording tools and know how to use them, time compression is usually not noticeable if done well. If not you can hear the missing bits of sound. They saved about 1:30 by cutting out the end theme and another 30 seconds by axing the preview. They could get in an additional minute of commercials by compressing the 22 remaining minutes at the rate the opening theme was compressed. Unfortunately, I don't own the DVD so I can't compare the running times. |

Yeah, I kind of picked that up too. It seemed like the opening theme song (Goblins and Candy) was going alttile faster then what I remember on the DVD.

They've done that with all of their recent anime ever since the merger (Gungrave, Gad-guard, and R.O.D. the TV) I personaly don't like it. I dont mind the ending being basicly cut out, but the songs being sped up does bother me. Tech TV never used to do this, so why now?

Well, when G4 bought them out it changed who made all the calls on things like this, my guess is that G4 doesn't really care all that much about the Anime Unleashed block, it's pretty obvious the main reason they bought out TechTV was so that they'd have more cable companies carrying their channel and also to get X-Play, 'cause they canned just about every other old TTV show... Plus, if you think about it, I'm suprised that they're even airing Abenobashi, all the early AU shows had a heavy technoogy theme, where as Abenoabshi has little to do with tech stuff, at least from what I've noticed |

Sadly, the Brooklyn accent would probably be more appropriate - the predominantly viewed stereotype is that people from Osaka are pushy, rude, and uneducated. Not only that, but it's also an urban area not nearly as developed as Tokyo - but it's not really out in the country either - the best comparative stereotype we have in the US? Brooklyn. |

It may be more appropriate in terms of the qualities you described, but it is not something many people would want to listen to for any amount of time, or read for that matter. I got really tired of reading the Eva manga whenver Toji was around. Using a southern accent still gets the point across that they are different, without hurting everybody's ears. |

Which is exactly the reason the Brooklyn accent isn't used. I've mentioned this in other threads, but I do recognize that the southern accent is certainly more tolerable on the ears. I do suppose it's the most effective compromise.

Well I'm not supporting G4TTV, but I kind of disagree. If they didn't at least some what care about the AU block they wouldn't have aired 4 new shows, plus the remaining episodes of Last Exile. Maybe the reason they aired Abenobashi was for the weird RPG like elements *refer to second episode* Plus I've only seen the first episode via Newtype USA for this show and since it didn't interest me enough to buy it I'm glad that I can now see it all for free *I'm 15 and live with my parents, therefore it's free for me  *

Not really. First thing is they may not have anything else to replace the programming block. Secondly, if it's even midly popular then they won't risk losing whoever still watches them by getting rid of it. You can keep a block, and show new eps without ever really caring about it, aside from whatever people work specifically on AU. |

How can you justify if they care or not? I have yet to see anything (minus the op and end songs) that says otherwise. Why would they air new shows if they didn't some what care? It has been said a million times over, anime and games go hand in hand. Typicaly since gamers like anime, why wouldn't they keep AU to satisfy those people, which could possibly be a majority of their audience? And since they have, why did they take a ratings risk and put shows on that have not been aired in america before? Until I can see proof (as in possible new shows for G4TTV that could take that time slot or possible cancelation of AU) then I won't agree with the opinion that G4TTV doesn't care about AU some way or another, especialy if they keep airing new series. |
