I remember these three stories from the fourth season of the Anime, and yes, they were very good.

I don't read Manga, but if I did, Natsume Yuujinchou would definitely be on my 'to buy' list. It's such a great series.

And so Tanuma finally enters Natsume's situation neck-deep.

Fortunately spoiler[it didn't turn out badly] and he was having a good day healthwise, but I'm a little anxious about where that's going. Natsume was of course rather distressed that Tanuma was involved, which was something he had been trying hard to avoid, and Natori's conversation with him about what that means added to a somewhat melancholy vibe in my opinion. Considering that Tanuma doesn't seem any more likely to let Natsume go it alone than Natsume would be were their situations reversed, I have a feeling this is going to turn either uplifting or very tragic. I'm still loving this series.

I've seen a non-anime fan get merchandise for this series. That gesture was a really high recommendation to me.

Love Natsume & have started to amass a little collection to show my support for this wonderful series.

Very happy now both the manga & anime will be over in the US.

As usual for Natsume, this volume had me on the verge of crying when I read it at work. This series is just so consistently excellent.

I think the real star of this three chapter story arc is Madara. The way he tried to emulate Natsume was incredibly funny. Laughing

The second story is the first episode of the third season. Wink But you are right that all these stories are animated.

dtm42 If you don't want to read all the 12 volumes, which the anime has covered, you can always start reading from volume 13, which begins with the third Matoba arc, so the content that has not been animated.

Whoops, I somehow got my wires crossed on that one.

Thanks for the advice. Given how the first four seasons have been broadcast*, we might have to wait till Summer 2014 for the fifth season. So I may indeed turn to the Manga to get my fix.

*
That is, in two pairs of two seasons each three months apart, with a gap of two-and-a-half years between the two pairs.

Well, I guess Zac wasn't kidding at AX when he said he'd spend an entire weekend posting like 6 reviews per day. That backlog is fierce!

I highly recommend the manga! The anime is very close to its source material so if you like the anime, you'll definitely like the manga too. I really can't recommend this series enough.

Vol.13 gives more insight into Matoba and what I found most interesting was that spoiler[it showed a different side of Matoba and you can't think of him as a bad guy.] The characters of this series and how they are portrayed are definitely one of its strongest points. Even each of the youkai have their own distinct personality.

I wouldn't expect a 5th season of the series until at least 2014 either. The anime averages 3 volumes per season and with 14 volumes out currently, yeah... Vol.15 is due out the beginning of 2013. Can't wait!!

I've seen guys on the train here in Japan with Nyanko Sensei straps on their phone. Anime hyper Brings a smile to my face every time.

The Natsume Ichiban Kuji prizes always sell out very quickly. I usually get them at either Animate or this video/book sale/rental store. Even at a regular store like the video place it sells out in just a few days. On the other hand, the AoEx Ichiban Kuji, which is quite popular and has sold out at Animate, is still available in great abundance at the video store. In fact when I went there the other day to try my luck at it again (finally got the Rin A prize figure! =D), I looked at their chart thingy to see which prizes have already been taken and I swear, it must be just me and maybe a handful of people who have bought it. There were soooooooo many left! I talked to the store worker about how when it was Natsume, they sold out really fast, and the guy agreed saying that Natsume has a wider appeal and both adults and their kids like Nyanko Sensei.

I also should point out a 5th season is not guaranteed. The director said there are no plans at the current time. Of course with the success of the franchise it is not out of the question, but I believe "the end" was only shown at the end of the Shi.

Also sales of the anime have slightly dropped, although it is still a high seller for a Shoujo.

Anyways I finally started collecting the manga this year after saying I would stick to the anime & I am glad I did. I find the manga & anime complement each other well.

edit: As for Ichiban Kuji, Natsume will be featured again in September with another Natsume figure and a Madara. My poor wallet.

I think that Matoba is not and was never intended to be a typical villain. His purpose is to provide a different point of view on ayakashi, which is unacceptable for the main character, but instead of turning it into a generic conflict, Midorikawa is clearly trying to create a situation in which Natsume will have to consider Matoba's proposal to join his clan seriously to protect himself and/or the Fujiwaras. It is evident from the latest chapter that he is concerned that some malicious ayakashi that seeks the book of friends may hurt them.

I think that at this moment Natsume's problem is whether he will succumb to Matoba's proposal and give up on living between the two worlds and treating them equally or whether he will be able to live the way he lives now.

That's why Matoba in some ways is more scary than typical villains, since he is intelligent, patient and calm and uses Natsume's weaknesses to get what he wants.

Oh I know. Matoba is still the series antagonist though, if you had to assign that role to a character. In the first chapters that introduce Matoba (keep wanting to type "Matobe" >_>) and the subsequent ones after that, Matoba is definitely a scary guy and one can easily label him as the bad guy, but the chapters in vol.13 shed more light on his motives, which I think helps readers understand him more.
