At this point in time, I'm not sure who the real licensor is. Whoever they really are, it looks like Digimon Adventure (Season 1) is getting released on DVD.

  • MSRP: $79.95
  • Number of discs: 8
  • Studio: New Video Group
  • DVD Release Date: October 9, 2012
  • Run Time: 1140 minutes
  • UPC: 767685278345
Quote:
It's official, Digifans! For the first time ever, all 54 original episodes of DIGIMON ADVENTURE SEASON 1 are available in this 8-disc collector's set. See the four story arcs of the classic DIGIMON television series from beginning to end.

While at summer camp, seven kids - Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, and T.K. - come across seven Digivices and are transported to a strange digital world. In this new world they make friends with creatures that call themselves Digimon - short for Digital Monsters - who were born to defend their world from various evil forces. The children learn they have the ability to help their new Digimon friends digivolve into different Digital Monsters and fight as a team to defend enemies and ultimately find their way home.

One box set? My guess is Discotek. Anyone else would've done multiple sets. Plus, they seem to have a good relationship with Toei. There is always S'more, but they would never use 8 discs for only 54 episodes, so that immediately disqualifies them.

Well, good thing I didn't buy the two AU boxsets back at Christmas.

Doubtful since they use another company as their distributor plus they haven't released a set this big before (their biggest so far was all of Fist Of The North Star 2 on 6 discs) plus they would've said something on their Facebook about them having this show months ago.

I am guessing that this is going to be the edited dub-only version? Would be sweet if it had dual audio.

Oh, finally. Been waiting forever for this!

In cases like Digimon, where they edited the footage as well as the dialogue, wouldn't that present a technical challenge with having both "edited" and "unedited" shows in one set? It seems like you'd have to have two separate video tracks, in addition to two audio tracks.

I ask specifically because of the original Sailor Moon, which I fear they'll only release in a "un-edited! re-translated! re-dubbed!" format--- when what I really want is to satiate my nostalgia. Laughing

No kidding!! I'll be watching this and if it DOES have subs, consider it preordered!! I've been waiting... forever to BUY a subbed version of it... I may even settle for dub-titles, it's how bad I want it >_>

Hmm, definitely interesting. I'm also curious about who the publisher is, and whether or not it's an edited dub-only or a dual-audio release. I also wonder, if they do a dual-audio release, will it be uncut sub and edited dub, or will there be an entire new uncut dub done? Also, will eventually this means that we could also see Season 2 get a re-release somewhere down the line soon too?

Definitely interesting...

I don't think it could sustain a redub, especially considering how much nostalgia's a selling factor.

Guessing it has to do with these guys, which probably makes the most sense considering Saban, Fox Kids and Disney were former owners to the rights of the franchise here in the states.

Hmmm it looks like only 02, Tamers, and Xros Wars got CR stream subs (sure wish those could be released as sets, even if I hear the subtitles are... pretty bad).

Either way, I sent the site an email for confirmation on the boxset's details.

Sweetness! If this is for real, then I think my birthday wish list is this and the Nadesico re-release! But I need more details, there is plenty of time to be sure, but hopefully this is not just an elaborate prank. And hopefully they will be able to get more Digimon seasons if this is for reals.

That really is the issue I think of when I hear fans clamoring for Sailor Moon to be re-released. Do they want the old edited version, or they want an unedited new dub? They can't have both, unless they author the disc in the same way that rated and unrated versions of films are put on discs. Still, that seems like a ton of effort and paperwork.

You mean with seamless video branching or with double-sided discs? If it's the latter then it is easy to do and has been done before in the past with an edited dub on one side and the uncut sub on the other (see Ronin Warriors & the Street Fighter II movie for examples). The only thing i wonder is if they can fit the same amount of episodes on each side like most anime DVDs have nowadays?

No to see if it'll be like the Madman version and have TV station logos on the screen or not.
