Steers clear of harems?

Oh, lol you mean only the first season (which is the best of the three by far). I can agree with this review. Zero no Tsukaima isn't really anything revolutionary and there isn't really much to set it apart, but the characters and the quirky hi-jinks are just so much fun to watch.

Oh, and Siesta > Louise. Just has to be said.

The biggest problem with this series is it doesn't follow the novels very well for three season already. First season it did for some time, but after this it was just downhill with a whole bunch of filler/fanservice points and some plot thrown in it. Not that it's an awful thing, but I would like a story that's actually moving rather than the series essentially resetting itself one season after the other.

for me....Louise > Tiffania > Siesta ....Kugimiya Syndrome says so....

I enjoyed ZnT season for guilty pleasures reasons, but if seasons 2 or 3 ever get licensed, I doubt the grades would even be close to as high as you gave it.

I'm still waiting for a harem show where the girls pilot giant robots to prove their love for the milquetoast, audience-insert lead.

That said, I'm surprised how positive the review was given the stigma towards these types of shows.

I have been waiting for this review.

I caught this via netflix, and was pleasantly surprised.
The way the world of magic treated things from "the real" world was interesting, the staff of destruction, the book to provide arousal, and the robe of the dragon.

It all played well into the characters, and left me entertained way more than I expected.

After such an experience, I would normally buy the series outright, like I did with Rocket Girls, but...

There are 26 more episodes. and who knows if they will be licensed or released. I stare at my 7 discs of Full Moon and refrain from a purchase.

Give someone who does not watch fansubs a break and get the rest of it, or it is a no buy for me.

Ya, I know this show is just ok, but I think your dissing the second too much. For me, the second is almost as good as the first, and without spoiling anything, I felt the final episode was by far the most powerful of any in the series (sans the last 30 seconds). However the third season does in fact have a noticeable drop in storytelling. Fyi, Siesta is just a desperate, annoying character from seasons 2 on: thus Louise>The rest of the girls> Siera.
And the reviewer is also right- little too much Loli in this show.
Season 1- 8/10
Season 2- 8/10
Season 3- 5/10- starting to get dragged out like DBZ.

My friend, you have the eternal enemy of the diehard anime fan: the completist bug. I, too, refuse to buy a series unless I am CERTAIN the second season or beyond is coming Stateside, usually. It sucks for people who want to view a whole series without having to resort to outside sources.

Hey, whatever they gotta do so they can keep pumping out Louise figurines to sell, I'm all for it (Have you SEEN the new Gothic Lolita and Nendoroid versions coming out?! ) Twisted Evil

Saito sums up this franchise for me very nicely with one phrase: "Tres Bien!"

I'm glad they praised Cristina Vee's work (I'm a fan).

I haven't seen this series, but I read the 1st chapter of the light novel (I prefer to read the original story with most animes first).

You never know which series is going to get a second season or not (see Slayers or Black Lagoon). This is one first season which used to be a stand alone in Japan as well. Only because of its success there have been more seasons so far ... maybe even more to come.

You can't expect the american publisher to publish all seasons just like this. It depends on the success of the first one as well. If the first season sells well, the others are pretty sure to be released as well. If it doesn't then not - just like the japanese would have never produced a second season if the first one would have been a flop.

So, if you're not going to help with the success of the first season, you are not helping the second and third season either. Of course, everybody can chose ... but if everybody just waits, no second season is going to be published, logically.

And you can still enjoy the first season without the others (especially since those others are worse and even a lot worse), it's not an open ending or anything. Just like the Japanese people did, who bought it, and doing so opened up the path to a second and third season Anime hyper

I personally thought that season 2 was the high point of the series. The first was good, but lacking substance; the second had everything the first had plus substance; and the third felt a bit like a filler arc. But I guess, if there's going to be a season 4 (and there's plenty of room for it), season 3 might find more meaning.

I think my first opinion of the show was that of being grateful. I thought this was one of those shows that got caught in the web of Geneon closing down its US domestic operations. (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

Now I was able to see what the whole fuss about Louise was all about.

It is not a bad show, pretty darn funny at times. It would be only a good thing if the sales of this box set helps to motivate the release of additional seasons.

When Funimation announced all those old Geneon title re-releases I wondered to myself if that was part of a broader, unspoken, business dealings. Something to the extent where you pay for older titles to help build up goodwill for getting newer titles licensed. But again I could be totally off the mark.
