Ouch! That's got to hurt...
It doesn't help that some of the Yōkai Watch goods were found in bargain stores like Dollar Tree (in the U.S.)...

The thing with fads is that they don't last.

It's a little hard to read the article clearly, so perhaps someone can distill it a little bit. Bandai Namco's on a tear, but, in a nutshell, what's working for them so far and what's not?

Pretty much everything seems to be working for them except for toy's and hobbies, which seems to be mainly brought down by Yo-Kai Watch sales.
Gaming, arcade, audio/visual, and licensing are all bringing in profits.

Yokai Watch's sales for most of its lifespan have been insane, so I imagine that might make the drop seem worse than it is. (overall) Brand wise, yikes, that's a property I don't see lasting another three years without some major re invigoration going on.

By definition it wouldn't be a 'fad' then. A fad would be all the clones of it that died out or are struggling to stay alive, like Digimon. Yokai Watch fell pretty hard last year. I personally blame Inaho. Series went downhill once she came along. Plus you can only buy the same toys over and over again so many times. Meanwhile Gashats are way better than Eyecons, so no surprise Rider sales are up.

Then there's the absence of Fumika in Yōkai Watch 3...Some people didn't take that too well...

Interesting numbers. I'd love to see a breakdown by series, and then its different groups/categories.
