At first I thought they might do a 6-weeks, one-hour-long episodes from Sep. 1st through Oct. 6th, but after reading those tweets, we might see the original 4 + 2 new one.

It could be one of a thousand things. Maybe their outsourcing studio bit the dust, maybe they bit off more than they could chew and got overwhelmed, maybe there's money problems, maybe some part of the animation pipeline f*cked up spectacularly, maybe their servers crashed and deleted a bunch of work. Maybe some disgruntled employee sabatoged things. We'll likely never know because studios tend to be tight-lipped about this stuff.
When a show we were working on had clear production problems someone in the studio wrote online why and our clients came in and metaphorically ripped a few of our heads off. If they'd managed to find the culprit (and they tried) that person would've been fired and blacklisted from the industry. |

Actas is also in the middle of producing another series called Long Riders that's supposed to start in October. Hopefully we won't have another ufotable cascading delays situation where Regalia's production problems mess up that series too.

Sounds to me like they too realized the show is boring and forgettable. |

Interesting. The delays and rushed schedules are unfortunately a common part of anime, but seeing somebody restart later is unusual. I haven't been watching this particular show, but I have to imagine there is a pretty big lapse in quality when they come right out and admit it isn't what they were going for.
The bit about not being able to cancel production also caught my attention. I take that to mean that since the production committee had already invested in the show, and likely carried forward with plans for things like merchandising, they weren't willing to wait until next season. |

Even more reasons why the second season of Cinderella Girls was a disasterpiece. Actas should get their s*** together on money management, while budget may be an issue, the story of Regalia was a mess, there have been complaints on how confusing it is and it has the feel that material is missing, sometimes anime may have supplementary material in the form of manga, LNs, OVAs, notes/posts on the official site or games that you need watch, read or play to understand the story and characters. Regalia really felt like one of those types of anime but it didn't have that material. |

The halt in broadcast also includes the digital streams of it too i assume?

They said streaming as well in the article. Not to say they will remove what has already streamed but that no further ones will be streamed or broadcast

Damn that's a shame. I just started watching this show and was enjoying it. That said, I'd rather they delay it and deliver a good product than continue on something sub par. The last episodes of Girls and Panzer were great. On the other hand Transformers Armada and Energon show the studio at their most rushed, and we don't want a repeat of that.

I feel the same way. When I first read this I thought maybe the director got fired or they're asking to revise the scripts even. I didn't think the quality was bad, just average, but the ability to tell a coherent story felt lacking. |

Pretty bummed by this news. This was one of my favorites of the summer so far. I don't think the animation quality was terribly lacking. It didn't seem to fluctuate any from episode 1 to 4. It isn't top-tier quality stuff like Fate/Kaleid Liner, but there are shows with much worse quality running this season. Is it maybe they were paying for Ufotable level quality and not getting it? That would make sense, I suppose, but I didn't get the impression that was ever a question, and it'd be odd to decide that a third of the way into the run - like I said, quality didn't seem to drop from episode one to four, so any animation issues of this level should have been obvious from episode one I would think.
Story wise, it seems very "big". I tend to like this story approach - you basically drop in a good bit into the story, and they fill in the background stuff bit by bit that usually fills the early episodes of a series. It goes a decent feel that the story and its characters have "life", that they weren't amorphous blobs until whatever happens that we suddenly start paying attention to them, while letting the story strike it's better parts without feeling like a bum-rush. This approach, however, can be messed up if they never get around to inking in those details, and generally needs more than a typical 12-episode cour to tell. Chances of this show going more than one cour are pretty much dead at this point thanks to this problem, I would think. At any rate, I wouldn't expect to see a whole lot different when this show comes back. Thinking about it practically, again, unless they're going to hand it to a new studio and throw them bags of cash, the level of correction needed to improve appearance is not that great for the general level of animation shown in these 4 episodes. Unless you want stellar animation quality, the best there will probably be are minor tweaks and quality control things that a good 90% of the audience probably won't notice anyway. If it was something else to do with the sausage-making behind the scenes that goes into any anime (disputes with creators, funding, etc) we will likely never know, and there will still likely be little if any change in animation quality. |

God Eater" had such long delays that it was late March they had the final TV episodes. I don't see an anime studio wanting to repeat this with another summer title.
