Finally was online for a change when a gimme came up. New pic - and fair warning that I will get picky about the title:

It's Shooting Star from Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, specifically episode 7 where the dragon is licking his wounds in his lair after being attacked by Deedlit, Parn & King Kashue.
So-so series with a terrific OP song. Even though I've heard it maybe 100 times the middle eight still thrills me. And, surprise, surprise, it was composed by Yoko Kanno.

Yep! I just wanted to make sure that the TV series, rather than the OVA series, was being designated.
Never realized that I hadn't seen the whole series before until I sat down and started watching my newly-acquired DVD box set recently. (It was part of a lot I picked up really cheap at a convention auction.) Must agree that its OP probably would make my short list of all-time anime greats; I never skip it. Did not realize that it was Yoko Kanno's composition, either.

Hint the first: the character has just become smitten with one of the two lead male characters in the franchise.
