Wolf's Rain did four recaps in a row because of the SARS outbreak, then released a four-part OVA in order to make up for the lost episodes.
Space Brothers' recaps should be finished, I think, so hopefully normal service will resume next week.

I've complained to my husband about the recaps on this show ever since the like second season. When it was still shiny and new the recaps were somewhat welcome. But now, it's like 4 - 6 minutes on average of recaps per episode...
Let's do the math.
At a minimum of 4 minutes for a recap (and that's a real low ball number for this show...)
4 (recap)
4 (intro/ending)
1 (preview - let's just round that up a few seconds...)
Total: 9 minutes
Total episode run time is about 22 - 24 minutes. That's almost half the show spent on recaps and fluff.
And, as I said before, the 4 minutes for a recap is being really skimpy. Usually, they have about 4 minutes at the beginning then another recap or two throughout the episode. I didn't even take those into consideration.
So, if we assume that they aren't showing us recaps and regurgitated dialogue, we're getting maybe 9 - 12 minutes an episode of actual new content.
That sucks.
Good show but the pacing has really gone to the dogs.
And now we've been presented with 3 full episode recaps. Although, I seem to remember another episode being mostly a recap somewhere around the end or halfway point of the first season... sometime around where Mutta passed the trials. But who's keeping track, right?
To be honest, I watched about 9 minutes of the first recap episode then fast forwarded to the ~20-minute mark to see if there was anything new. Then I got upset and figured that they'd pick up next episode. This time, I saw Hibito and was like "oh. Now it's his turn." and just turned the dang thing off. I figured I could find out if there was new stuff when the next episode aired since they do such astoundingly epic recaps.
And I didn't bother with the 3rd. I actually came here first to see if you guys said it was a recap because that was easier than waiting for Crunchyroll to load. LOL

I've been thinking it over, and made a decision; I'm removing Space Brothers from my schedule. I'm not dropping it, but I'm going to put it on hold for a while. The reasoning is that it's a good story with good characters, but watching it week to week is so boring because so little happens in each episode. But if I wait until there are ten or twenty episodes out I can marathon them all at once and the slow pacing won't be so annoying.
So yeah, see ya guys later. Ciao.

You have more patience than I do, dtm! I don't think I'd be able to wait so long to see the show, even if I was watching several episodes of the show.

Episode 55
Looks like things are finally moving forward.
Survival training - last day!
Tough choices for everyone. That sure made Mutta feel bad.
Luckily, he's a part of a good team and not the type to quit so easily.
Last place certainly got them the worst possible opportunity to move forward.

Oh Lowry, you only missed by one syllable. That was the strangest fist bump I've ever seen. So I guess Pico is Vince's older (?) brother? The look they were exchanging was more like lovers, but I'm sure the earlier reference to Vince being in a similar situation to Reiji means they're brothers.

Oh yay, finally out of the filler episodes and we get to meet Pico! He's an interesting character and later they should reveal more about him and Vince.
@Gina Szanboti
Vince and Pico are not brothers.

Episode 56
And so the Comeback Competition begins!
E team is at a disadvantage right from the start, both with the instructor and funds.
Maybe they'll cure their instructors' guilt trip while they at it.
The whole thing about Brian accident was a nice intro for the next episode.
It's was about time Hibito comes back from the Moon.

Anyone else laugh at the distinctly Home Depot-ish hardware store in the latest episode? LoL.

I noticed it, but since they're in Texas, I didn't think much of it. It's actually getting hard to find a hardware store these days that isn't Home Depot or Lowes.

Haha, well, I used to work as a vendor at Home Depot for a seasonal job so it kind of took me back when I saw the scene.

Episode 57
Norton seems hopeless with his behavior.
Guess he needs to get over that tragic event.
Team E wasn't doing so good with their project at first.
Luckily, Norton threw in some of his ideas and actually helped a lot.
Vince and his speed test... that guy really is kinda weird.

Look at how well-animated these toys are, too. Compared to the people the penguins and fish appear quite realistic. I bet the staff had a lot of fun making these scenes. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they have a few toys like these at A-1 Studios either. You know, the ones they had to buy for "research" purposes.
