40-minute animation, collaboration crossbeats REV. rhythm arcade game planned

Creative arts technology company ICTCO's booth at the "Nakano Culture Festival 2015" in Tokyo's Nakano ward hosted a talkshow on Saturday to announce a multimedia project titled Utakata: Overdrive.

Thus far, the "music x story" project has kicked off a 40-minute original animation, cast recruitment, insert song composition, and a collaboration with CAPCOM's rhythm arcade game crossbeats REV.

Director Seiji Mizushima (Concrete Revolutio, Fullmetal Alchemist) will be participating in the project. The original plan behind the project was drafted by writer Tō Amane and character designer NOB-C. Yosuke Hasegawa is serving as project producer. Voice actresses Hiromi Igarashi and Kaede Yuasa served as MCs for the announcement event.

The staff unveiled the first two key visuals and a promotional video. The key visuals feature the main characters Chihaya and Kaara.

The story takes place in the fantasy world of Planet Note. Humans, who can no longer sing, pair up with members of a tribe of non-humans that can sing. These are the sound users "Otokata" and the singers "Utakata." Together they use the sounds and songs as weapons in competition.

The project is slated for 2016.
