Anohana, Madoka Magica Characters Rank in Most Tragic Heroine Poll

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

While most anime girl polls might ask which girl is the cutest, this Charapedia poll takes a notably darker approach.

The site's recent poll asked anime fans to rank who they think is the most tragic heroine in anime thus far. This poll tallies up votes from various fans differing by gender and age group.

In First Place by a considerable margin is the ill violinist Kaori Miyazono from the 2014-2015 anime Your Lie in April. While people weren't exactly fans of her often-abrasive and combative personality, knowing that it stemmed from her unfortunate physical condition rounded her out as a lovable yet tragic character. Kaori won with 325 votes.

Second place goes to Kotonoha Katsura from 2007's School Days. Fans cited her sad descent from a shy yet determined girl involved in a love triangle to full-blown yandere status with deadly consequences. She won with 286 votes.

Meiko "Menma" Honma from 2011's anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day claimed third place. Troubled by her own death as a child, Menma brought tears to the eyes of the fans as she reached out to protagonist Jintan as an apparition of his grief or even a ghost. Menma claimed this spot with 237 votes.

The top 10 are as follows.

  1. Kaori Miyazono from Your Lie in April- 325 votes
  2. Kotonoha Katsura from School Days- 286 votes
  3. Meiko Honma from anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day- 237 votes
  4. Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica- 202 votes
  5. Mami Tomoe Madoka Magica- 199 votes
  6. Ran Mouri from Detective Conan- 187 votes
  7. Sakura Matou from the Fate series- 179 votes
  8. Sayaka Miki from Madoka Magica- 163 votes
  9. Stella Loussier from Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny- 157 votes
  10. Index from the To Aru series- 152 votes
