Sega Will Not Have an E3 Booth for the First Time in 20 Years

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Game publisher Sega confirmed with Game Informer that the company will not have its own booth in this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. This will be the first time that the company will not have a booth in E3 since the event began in 1995.

Sega stated that it would not attend E3 so it can focus on relocating Sega of America (its North American division) from its San Francisco headquarters to Southern California. Sega recently underwent a restructuring in January this year that saw the company pivoting toward PC and mobile game development, and offering early retirement packages to around 300 employees. This is only three years after its last restructuring in 2012.

However, Sega stated that it would still be collaborating with some of its partners, such as Relic Entertainment, Sports Interactive, and Creative Assembly, to show games during the event. Relic Entertainment released its World War II strategy game Company of Heroes 2 in 2013, with two online expansion packs last year. Sports Interactive will release Football Manager 2016 this year. Creative Assembly recently announced its Total War: Warhammer strategy game, but has not yet announced a release date for the game.
