Pittsburgh's Premiere Anime, Gaming, Music/Pop Culture Convention Announces Tekko 2015

PITTSBURGH, PA. – Tekko, Pittsburgh's premiere anime, gaming, music and Japanese Pop Culture convention, now in its thirteenth year serving the region, will be returning to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh, Pa. This year's convention will be held the weekend of April 16 - 19, 2015.

Last year Tekko obtained another record attendance, with a 25% increase in total registrations, entertaining over 5,200 guests from 21 states! Over the four-day period, the overall economic impact to the greater Pittsburgh area was nearly 3 million dollars in terms of guest spending on hotels/lodging, restaurants, shopping, etc.

This April, Tekko promises to provide local and regional anime, music and pop culture fans with some of the best guests, shows and expanded programming in its history.
For example, new this year there will be Tekko Gakkou (School Series) an education oriented programming and learning track dedicated to exploring the nuanced culture and history of Japan. Content in the Gakkou track focuses on all facets of Japanese culture including (but not limited to) food, history, beliefs, school life, fashion, subculture, identity, and world influences.

Special guests this year include J. Michael Tatum, a highly popular American voice actor, ADR Director and script writer at Funimation/OkraTron 5000, providing voices for a number of English versions of Japanese anime series and video games.

Other Voice actors include Jerry Jewell and Jamie Marchi. Also, model/blogger RinRin Doll, comedian Karl “Uncle Yo” Custer, and local musician Nancy Kepner.

Featured musical guest will be ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D, a three-piece band based in Shibuya, Japan. They exploded onto the music scene in June 2010 with their very first single, “Complication.” The single quickly reached number one in downloadable tracks, ranked 11th on the Oricon Weekly ranking. Also, DJs and promoters Tune in Tokyo who founded the first monthly event in Los Angeles for Asian dance pop in 2008, will host Tekko dance events.

Continuing, mainstay components of Tekko include vendors, artist's alley, panels, fashion shows, cosplay contests, dance contests, gaming and much, much more.
Tekko, presented by the non-profit Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society, continues to promote anime, gaming, music and Japanese pop culture in the Pittsburgh regional area and to establish a social framework through which anime fans can interact with each other.
