Live-Action Library Wars Blu-ray DVD Slated for November

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The official Twitter account for the live-action Library Wars film announced on Friday that the home video release is slated for November 13.

The film will be released in a Blu-ray/DVD combo Premium Box, and in separate Blu-ray and DVD standard editions. The extras in all of the editions include the Library "mini" Wars shorts, the full and teaser trailers, television commercials, and audio commentaries from creator Hiro Arikawa and director Shinsuke Satō.

The Premium Box adds a two-hour "visual commentary" with actors Junichi Okada and Nana Eikura as well as Sato, a making-of documentary with narration by Tomoaki Maeno, a collection of cut scenes, an interview with Okada and Eikura, and a collection of footage from stage greetings by the cast and staff. The box set also bundles the 36-page color book given to the press and a book with over 200 pages of action sequence storyboards. The first edition of the box will bundle a set of character bookmarks.

The box set will retail for 9,240 yen (about US$93), the standard Blu-ray will retail for 4,410 yen (US$44), and the standard DVD will retail for 3,360 yen (US$34).

V6 idol group member Junichi Okada (Tales from Earthsea, From Up On Poppy Hill) and Nana Eikura (Mei-chan no Shitsuji, Boku wa Imōto ni Koi o Suru) star in this adaptation of Hiro Arikawa's Toshokan Sensō action novel series. The story is set in a future version of Japan. A law threatens to clamp down on freedom of expression in 2019, and Iku (Eikura) joins the Library Defense Force, a military unit dedicated to protecting books from being confiscated. However, she finds that the job of her childhood dreams is harder than she bargained for, especially with her hard-nosed instructor Atsushi (Okada).

The Japan Film Festival of San Francisco hosted the U.S. premiere with director Shinsuke Satō (Gantz, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror, The Princess Blade, Sand Chronicles) on August 2 and 3.
