RPG port slated to ship in Japan on September 20

Square Enix began streaming a one-minute teaser video on Monday for the Final Fantasy III game's PlayStation Portable release. The role-playing game is slated to ship in Japan on September 20.

Square originally released the game for the Family Computer system (known as the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America) in 1990. A Nintendo DS version shipped in Japan in 2006, followed by an iOS device release in 2011.

To promote the upcoming PlayStation Portable release, Square Enix is holding a music performance contest from June 11 to July 31. Fans can record and submit videos of their performances of the game's song "Yūkyū no Kaze" (Eternal Wind). The Final Fantasy series compuser Nobuo Uematsu will select five winning submissions, and results will be announce in late August or early September. The overall winner will receive an iPod with a special Final Fantasy III design and a Final Fantasy III illustrated plate. The other four top videos submitters will each receive an iPod with a special Final Fantasy III design.

A separate illustration request contest will launch on June 25. The Final Fantasy character designer Akihiko Yoshida will illustrate the winning Final Fantasy III scene suggestion, and one winner will receive an iPod with a special Final Fantasy III design and a Final Fantasy III illustrated plate. A third catch copy campaign will also award the same prize.

The game's regular release will cost 3,990 yen (about US$50), while the downloadable version will cost 3,300 yen (US$42).
