Gilles Poitras and Ric Meyers Return to FanimeCon 2012

San Jose, CA (May 4th, 2012) – FanimeCon welcomes back Gilles Poitras and Ric Meyers, two US fan favorite Guests of Honor, to FanimeCon 2012 (Memorial Day weekend, May 25-28).

Author and librarian Gilles Poitras will be at FanimeCon to share his vast knowledge of anime, manga, and related fan culture. His extensive resume displays a large body of work, from author of many popular books, such as The Anime Companion, Anime Essentials and the Anime Companion 2, to contributor to magazines, including Newtype USA and Otaku USA. Mr. Poitras is also the “Access Services Librarian” at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and serves as a senior board member of Mechademia, an annual scholarly anthology of essays on anime, manga and fan culture. He has also given all-day workshops for librarians, introduced anime films at the Smithsonian, and even taught a course on the subject of anime for Pixar staff.

This year Mr. Poitras will have a number of panels covering diverse topics. His “Universal Gundam vs. Other Gundam” panel will certainly draw a heated debate amongst fans. For those who are new to anime and are curious as to all that it entails, Mr. Poitras will hold the “Anime (and Manga) for Parents (and other Grownups)” panel where he will discuss a variety of aspects of anime and manga. This special panel is available to everyone and does not require a FanimeCon membership for entry.

Novelist and comic creator Ric Meyers continues to host interesting and informative panels at FanimeCon such as “Kung Fu Extravaganza” or “Breaking into the Business” and in years past has hosted FanimeCon's Cosplay Masquerade. Outside of FanimeCon, fans may know him from his comics for Atlas, Topps, DC and Image, his sci-fi, horror, and fantasy-mystery novels for Warners, Dell and Dungeons & Dragons, or his non-fiction books about science fiction movies, fantasy films and TV detectives. Mr. Meyers has also worked on audio commentaries, liner notes, interviews and cover copy for more than 400 international DVDs.

Mr. Meyers has held seminars about kung-fu at the TV network Nickelodeon and studios like DreamWorks and Sony, and taught at City College of New York, Brigham Young University, the University of Bridgeport's Martial Arts Studies Degree Program, and even the Chinese Cultural College in Taiwan. He holds the honor of kinging at Medieval Times and enjoys playing Santa to deliver presents every Christmas Eve. Mr. Meyers can be seen in his new documentary, Films of Fury: The Kung Fu Movie Movie, which was released May 1on DVD, or in two international films, Black Day, and The Suppressor, released in 2011.

Both Mr. Poitras and Mr. Meyers are sure to entertain all members that they encounter, so keep an eye out for their programming schedules on www.fanime.com as con gets closer!
