NisiOisin's Onimonogatari Light Novel Tops Chart

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
11th Monogatari series title sells 121,550 copies in 1st week

NisiOisin's Onimonogatari, the eleventh volume in his Monogatari light novel series, topped Oricon's book chart in its first week of sales. Released on September 30, the light novel sold 121,550 copies. This exceeds the sales of the regular edition of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai, which topped Oricon's light novel chart last week with 98,000 copies. Onimonogatari is the third volume in the Monogatari series, after Nekomonogatari -Kuro- and Hanamonogatari, to top Oricon sales charts.

Onimonogatari follows the story of Shinobu Oshino, a lead female character in the Monogatari supernatural series. As a vampire, Shinobu's life is closely connected with that of the high school boy Koyomi Araragi, the series' main protagonist.

The Monogatari light novel series will conclude in December when Koimonogatari releases in Japan. NisiOisin's Bakemonogatari and Katanagatari light novels both received television anime adaptations, and Kizumonogatari will receive an anime film version next year. Nisemonogatari, the light novel series' fourth and fifth volumes, will also receive a television anime adaptation scheduled to begin airing in January 2012.

Separate from the Monogatari series of novels, NisiOisin published the Shōjo Fujūbun light novel on September 8.
