Kei Toume Ends Genei Hakurankai, Plans New Fall Manga

posted on by Egan Loo
Tei Ogata launches new manga; Chizu Kobashi, Noriko Kuwata ended theirs

Kei Toume ended her Genei Hakurankai manga in the March issue of Gentosha's Monthly Comic Birz magazine on Saturday, and she is already planning her next work for a Fall launch. Genei Hakurankai centers around the cases that a detective and his enigmatic assistant solve in Taisho-era (1912-1926) Japan. Toume launched the manga in Gentosha's B street magazine in 2000, but it then moved to Comic Birz in 2003. The third book volume shipped in 2009.

Genei Hakurankai has not been published in North America, but Tokyopop and Del Rey published Toume's Lament of the Lamb and Kurogane manga, respectively.

Tei Ogata (Kimera) will launch a new manga called Akatsukiyami no Wolf in the April issue of Comic Birz on February 28. Chizu Kobashi's curling manga Sweep!! and Noriko Kuwata's detective comedy manga 888 ended in the February issue in December. Kobashi launched Sweep!! in September of 2009, and the third and final volume shipped this week. DrMaster began its North American edition of 888 in 2005, but did not complete the series before it stopped publishing titles in North America. Its sixth and final volume will ship in Japan on February 24.

Thanks to Rachel S. for the Sweep!! and 888 news tips.
