Akira BD Sells 10K in Japan, 20K in NA & 30K More Projected

The Japanese media distributor Bandai Visual announced on Thursday that the Blu-ray Disc version of Katsuhiro Ōtomo's Akira film sold 20,000 copies in North America and 10,000 copies in Japan since February. 60% of the Best Buy stores in North America have been reportedly sold out, and the Amazon.com website continues to be inundated with orders. Due to the demand in North America, an additional 10,000 copies are being produced in Japan for shipping across the Pacific by the beginning of next month. Bandai Visual had projected that 30,000 copies would eventually be sold in North America, but have now raised its projections to 50,000 copies.
