Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone, Zombie Land Saga Buzzwords Make Gadget Tsūshin 2019 List

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge & Kim Morrissy

Gadget Tsūshin's Anime Ryūkōgo Taishō is a yearly list of the most popular anime-related buzzwords. The site released a tentative list of trending terms in June with nods to Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Demon Slayer, and Kemurikusa. Gadget Tsūshin has released the list of all the trendy contenders and opened voting to the public. Participants can pick up to three terms for this year's biggest anime buzzwords until December 6.

The list is:

  • "xx no kokyū" (-- Breathing technique names) from Demon Slayer
  • "Aaaah! Nengō gaa! Nengō ga kawatte iru!" (Aahh! The era--The era changed again!") from Demon Slayer
  • "Now this excites me!" (Senku's catchphrase) from Dr. Stone
  • "Go Back Home" (episode 9 title) from Kemono Friends 2
  • "Gomasuri kusō bird" (fan name for the G. Roadrunner character) from Kemono Friends 2. In a fan comic, the characters speculate what the 'G' in G. Roadrunner stands for, and Kyururu suggests that it's "Gomasuri kusō bird" (ass-kissing shitty bird)
  • "Beautiful Megumin" (fan name for Emilia, who shares the same voice actor as Megumin) from Isekai Quartet
  • "Interesting woman" from Wasteful Days of High School Girl. A skit from the first episode pokes fun at what a stereotypical line this is in romance fiction.
  • "Yamai" (character) from Wasteful Days of High School Girl
  • "Do you have a tiny machine gun on your shoulders?" (line from OP theme) from How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? OP
  • "Nice Bulk" (line from special training videos) promoting How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?
  • "Horizon Alliance" (a gag about an alliance between flat-chested girls) from Katana Maidens: Mini Toji
  • "You tried to touch my titties!" (reference to an episode 3 gag) from How Clumsy you are, Miss Ueno
  • "Nice bird" (reference to an episode 5 gag) from Zombie Land Saga
  • "Masao" (Lily's deadname) from Zombie Land Saga
  • "Shamiko is a bad girl" (a fan meme) from The Demon Girl Next Door. Despite numerous occasions when Momo teases Shamiko, she never once actually utters this line
  • "Crisis Management!" (Shamiko's transformation) from The Demon Girl Next Door
  • "Uyan" (Senko's catchphrase) from The Helpful Fox Senko-san
  • "Mijoka" (Nagasaki dialect spoken by Rin, translated as "adorbs") from Kandagawa Jet Girls
  • "Melon Soda" (line from ED theme) from The Morose Mononokean II ED
  • "Pesci, Pesci, Pesci, Pesci yo~~~" (Prosciutto's line to Pesci in episode 15) from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind
  • "Bon'nō" (Earthly Vices) from Namu Amida Butsu! -Rendai Utena-
  • "Buttomo" (portmanteau of "zuttomo", meaning friends forever, and "Buddha") from Namu Amida Butsu! -Rendai Utena-. Translated as "BudFFs"
  • "Látom" (prayer for Infernals) from Fire Force
  • "Wahaha! If you laugh, you'll score loads of points" (line from Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu episode 6 ED)
  • "Don't call me unfortunate!" (Aru's catchphrase) from Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu
  • "Magical Spanking" (reference to episode 8) from Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka
  • "Mayotarō" (fan name for Tsukasa Mikogami) from High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even In Another World. In the first episode, the characters make mayonnaise, impressing everybody in the other world
  • "A funny, squirmy feeling" (episode 1 title) from WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me
  • "Annihilation Beam" from Promare
  • "Kemono Mask" (line from OP theme) from Kemono Michi: Rise Up
  • "Ikiri Sabatarō" (fan name for Ritsuka Fujimaru) from Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia. The name pokes fun of Ritsuka's tendency to talk tough while hiding behind Mash's shield during battles. "Ikiri" means "cocky" and "Saba" is short for "servant." "Tarō" is a generic male name and a popular way of referring to generic protagonists (often from Narou novels)
  • "Kirayaba~☆" (Hikaru's catchphrase) from Star Twinkle Precure
  • "Perfectly prepared" (Seiya's catchphrase) from Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious
  • "Sōnan desu ka?" (Lit. "Are we shipwrecked?") Japanese title of Are You Lost?
Last year's top choice was less of a buzzword and more of an inescapable character with Detective Conan: Zero's Executioner's Tōru Amuro. "Amuro's Women," a nod to his female fandom, took second place followed by Pop Team Epic's "Sate wa Anti Dana Ome" (So, you're a hater?) from the anime's seventh episode.
