Woodpecker Detective's Office Anime Reveals Main Cast, More Staff, Visual

The official website for the television anime adaptation of Kei Ii's Woodpecker Detective's Office (Kitsutsuki Tantei-Dokoro) mystery novel revealed more cast members, more staff members, and a visual on Friday.
The anime will star Shintarō Asanuma as Takuboku Ishikawa and Takahiro Sakurai as Kyōsuke Kindaichi.
As previously revealed, the anime will also star Kenjiro Tsuda, Rikiya Hayashi, and Hayato Furusawa. Hayashi and Furusawa won the second audition round for male voice actors for the Kimikoe Project in January.
The newly revealed staff includes Tomoe Makino (episode director for Tsuredure Children, Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū, Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto) as director, Shuichi Hara (Lost Song, Alice in the Country of Hearts: Wonderful Wonder World) as character designer, and MONACA as composer.
Shinpei Ezaki (Monster Strike The Movie, Hanebad!, Gunslinger Stratos: The Animation) is chief director of the anime at LIDEN FILMS. LIDEN FILMS is also credited with production alongside Tôhoku Shinsha. Taku Kishimoto (91 Days, Silver Spoon, Haikyu!! three seasons) is overseeing the series scripts, and manga creator Kaoru Saki is credited with the original character designs.
The anime will premiere in spring 2020 and will air on Tokyo MX, BS-Fuji, and CS Family Gekijō.
The novel's story is set in 1909 during Japan's Meiji era, and centers on fictional versions of real-life poet Takuboku Ishikawa (right in picture at right) and real-life linguist Kyōsuke Kindaichi, who were acquaintances in real life. In the novel, Takuboku runs a private detective agency to support his family. Both begin to investigate a case of supposed ghost appearances at the Asakusa Jūnikai building, also known as the Ryōunkai.
Kei Ii published the novel's first edition in the regular tankōbon format through Tokyo Sogensha in 1999. Tokyo Sogensha re-released the novel in the smaller bunko format in 2008.
The first initiative in Tôhoku Shinsha's KimiKoe Project was an audition for female voice actresses. Out of 3,000 applicants, six were chosen to create the "NOW ON AIR" voice actress unit. The voice actresses also starred in Madhouse's Kimi no Koe o Todoketai anime film, which opened in Japan in August 2017.
