Yutaka Hiiragi's Shinmai Shimai no Futari Gohan Cooking Manga Gets Live-Action Series

Anna Yamada, Karen Otomo star in October series about new sisters bonding through cooking

TV Tokyo announced on Tuesday that it is producing a live-action series adaptation of Yutaka Hiiragi's Shinmai Shimai no Futari Gohan (The Sisters' Meal for Two) manga. The series will premiere on TV Tokyo's "MokuDora 25" programming block on October 10. The series will star Anna Yamada as older sister Sachi and Karen Otomo as younger sister Ayari.

The manga centers on the girls Sachi and Ayari who become sisters due to their parents' marriage. The two bond over cooking and eating. Sachi is bad at cooking, but loves to eat anything delicious. Ayari is introverted but is intensely passionate about anything related to cooking.

Kentarō Moriya, Hiroaki Yuasa, and Kenji Kuwajima are directing the series, with scripts by Erika Seki, Yūki Imanishi, and Hikaru Sōma.

Hiiragi launched the manga in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in June 2015. Kadokawa published the manga's sixth compiled book volume on January 25.

Yen Press published the yuri anthology manga Éclair: A Girls' Love Anthology That Resonates in Your Heart in June 2018, and it includes a short manga by Hiiragi.
