Young Disease Outburst Boy Anime Unveils Main Cast, More Staff, Manga, October Debut

posted on by Egan Loo

The official website and Twitter account for Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy, the television anime of Vocaloid producer rerulili's "Young disease outburst Boy" ("Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy") song and Minato Tonami's slice-of-life comedy novel adaptation, opened on Monday. Both the site and Twitter account unveiled the anime's main cast, more staff members, manga adaptation, October premiere, and new key visual.

The anime stars:

Chinatsu Akasaki as Mizuki Hijiri, a high school girl whose quiet life is turned upside-down when she somehow becomes friends with boys suffering from chūnibyō (adolescent delusions of grandeur)

Daiki Yamashita as Yamato Noda, who suffers from Peter Pan syndrome and dreams of becoming a hero

Shugo Nakamura as Tomoki Takashima, the tragically handsome otaku who only likes 2D girls

Hideaki Kabumoto as Kazuhiro Nakamura, the brilliant loner who is the supposedly "reincarnated" angel or devil (or both)

Junya Enoki as Rei Tsukumo, the self-professed string-puller

Rikuya Yasuda as Futaba Mikuriya, who is considered to be a non-otaku enjoying a real life, but is actually a self-absorbed (tone-deaf) singer

Satoshi Motoyama is directing the sound at Ai Addiction, and TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND is composing the music. Lantis is producing the music.

Kadokawa Shoten's online Gene pixiv service will serialize the manga adaptation of the television anime.

As previously announced, Kazuya Ichikawa (Clean Freak! Aoyama kun, Bakugan Battle Planet, Monster Strike the Animation) is directing the anime at Studio DEEN. Midori Gotou (Hozuki's Coolheadedness all three seasons, Clean Freak! Aoyama kun) is overseeing the series scripts, and Yusa Matsuura (Clean Freak! Aoyama kun chief animation director) is designing the characters for animation.

The story centers around Mizuki Hijiri, a high school girl who just transferred schools. At her new school, she has a fateful encounter with boys suffering from chūnibyō (adolescent delusions of grandeur). There is Noda who dreams of becoming a hero, the tragically handsome otaku Takashima who only likes 2D girls, Nakamura the supposedly "reincarnated" angel or devil, and the self-professed string-puller Tsukumo.

Videos tied to rerulili's Vocaloid songs have garnered over 100 million views. The "Young disease outburst Boy" song inspired both a stage play and a manga series adaptation by Megumi Hazuki in 2017. Kadokawa has published five volumes of Tonami's main novel series, and four volumes of Tonami's Chūbyō Gekihatsu Boy: Seishun Shōkōgun novels.

Another song by rerulili, "Nou Shou Sakuretsu Girl" (Spinal Fluid Explosion Girl), inspired a live-action film in 2015.
