Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma manga previously inspired three television anime series, and will have a fourth season in October. The first anime season aired for 24 episodes from April to September 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the first anime adaptation as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for North America. Sentai Filmworks also licensed Food Wars! The Second Plate, the second anime season. The 13-episode series aired in July-September 2016, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. The third season, Food Wars! The Third Plate, premiered in October 2017, and the second half of the third season premiered in April 2018. Crunchyroll exclusively streamed the third season.

Tsukuda and Saeki launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012, and ended it on June 17. Chef Yuki Morisaki is credited for cooperation for the manga. Viz Media releases chapters of the manga weekly in English on its app and website, and also releases the manga's compiled book volumes in English. Shueisha also publishes the manga digitally in English on its MANGA Plus service. The manga will get three more chapters under the title Shokugeki no Sōma: Le dessert in Shueisha's Jump Giga magazine, starting with the issue that shipped on June 27. The manga's 36th and final volume will ship on October 4.
