Sega Reveals 12 More Games for 'Sega Genesis Mini' Console

New games include Tetris, Darius, Road Rash II, Strider

Sega revealed 12 more games for the Sega Genesis Mini (Mega Drive Mini) console during a livestream on Tuesday. The company revealed that the console will have 42 games instead of the previously announced 40.

The new games for the United States version of the console are:

  • Tetris
  • Darius
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Alisia Dragoon
  • Monster World IV
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Road Rash II
  • Eternal Champions
  • Columns
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Strider
  • Light Crusader

The new games for the Japanese version of the console are:

  • Columns
  • Monster World IV
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Assault Suit Leynos (Jūsō Kihei Leynos)
  • Langrisser II
  • Alisia Dragoon
  • Road Rash II
  • Slap Fight
  • Snow Bros.
  • Lord Monarch: Tokoton Sentō Densetsu
  • Darius
  • Tetris

The first 30 games announced for the U.S. release are:

Sega will release the console in Japan on September 19 under the name "Mega Drive Mini." Sega will release the console in Japan with one controller for 6,980 yen (about US$63), and with two controllers for 8,980 yen (about US$81). The console will include an HDMI connection and a USB port for charging.

Sega will release the console in the U.S. for US$79.99 on September 19. The release will include the console with 40 games, two controllers, a USB power adapter, a power cable, and an HDMI cable.

The Mega Drive was Sega's third console, and Sega released the console in Japan in 1989. Sega released the console in the same year in North America under the name Sega Genesis. Sega withdrew from the games console market in 2001.
