R-Type Final 2 Sequel Game's Kickstarter Campaign Launches on Monday
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Video game production company Granzella announced on Friday that its planned crowdfunding campaign for a R-Type Final 2 sequel game will launch on Kickstarter on Monday at 11:00 a.m. EDT. The game is planned for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam). The company stated the campaign will last for "about a week," but will announce the campaign's end date when the campaign launches.
The campaign will feature 14 reward tiers, with rewards including digital or physical copies of the game, a hardcover art book, soundtracks, T-shirts, and the right to put the backer's name in the staff credits, among others.
The game is a planned sequel to Irem's R-Type Final PlayStation 2 shooter game. The planned release date is in 2020 worldwide. Granzella shared several screenshots and designs from the upcoming game (see below gallery).
The game will be the first R-Type game in the series to be made for 16:9 aspect ratio screens, with stages from previous games being rebuilt from scratch with "new expressions and interpretations." The game's "Real-time Level Function" will automatically change the difficulty of the game based on the player's skill. The difficulty level can be checked on the screen. Players can also set a cap in difficulty level. Additionally, the game will feature different player fighters, and players can unlock more fighters by meeting certain conditions.
The first R-Type arcade shooter debuted in 1987. R-Type Final debuted for the PS2 in 2003, while the R-Type Tactics and R-Type Tactics II sequel debuted for the PlayStation Portable in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Tozai Games launched R-Type Dimensions, a compilation of the first two R-Type games, on PC via Steam last November.
