Film's staff attend screening this month

Staff of the Anime Boston convention announced on Thursday that this year's event will host the North American premiere screening of City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes, the new anime film adaptation of Tsukasa Hōjō's City Hunter manga. The screening will take place at the Sheraton Grand Ballroom from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on April 20. The film's chief director Kenji Kodama, producer Naohiro Ogata, and scriptwriter Yoichi Kato will appear for a Q&A panel.

The film opened in 251 theaters in Japan on February 8. The film sold 180,000 tickets to earn 257 million yen (about US$2.32 million) and rank #4 in its opening weekend. The anime earned a cumulative total of 1,404,747,320 yen (about US$12.16 million).

Sunrise animated the film, which moves the setting to present-day Shinjuku. Kumiko Takahashi (Birdy the Mighty, Card Captor Sakura) was the character designer, and Taku Iwasaki (Gurren Lagann, Gatchaman Crowds) composed the music. The film's ending song is TM Network's "Get Wild," the ending theme song for the first City Hunter television anime.

This year's Anime Boston will take place at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston from April 19-21. Japanese guests include composer Yoko Shimomura and musician MIYAVI, who will perform a concert.
