Sōsuke Ikematsu, Yū Aoi reprise roles in new film

Star Sands announced on Thursday that it is producing a live-action film adaptation of Hideki Arai's Miyamoto kara Kimi e (From Miyamoto to You) manga. The film opens in Japan this fall. Sōsuke Ikematsu and Yū Aoi reprise their roles as protagonist Hiro Miyamoto and Yasuko Nakano, respectively, from the live-action series adaptation of the manga last year.

The film's story will focus on Miyamoto and Nakano in the "ultimate paean to humanity." Ken'ichi Matsuyama, Tokio Emoto, Hidetoshi Hoshida, and Kanji Furutachi are also returning from the live-action series, but the announcement did not specify if they will reprise their roles.

Tetsuya Mariko returns from the series as director and scriptwriter, with Takehiko Minato also penning the script. Filming began on September 29 and concluded on October 30.

The manga ran in Kodansha's Morning magazine from 1990 to 1994, and it won the seinen general category of the 38th Shogakukan Awards in 1992. Ohta Publishing released a four-volume "authentic" version of the manga in 2009.

The story follows a newbie salaryman named Miyamoto, who works at a stationary company and pushes forward despite his frustration with his own insignificance.

The live-action series premiered in April 2018.

Arai's 1995-1996 manga Itoshi no Irene also inspired a live-action film that opened in Japan last September.
