Imagica Group Merges Subsidiaries to Form Imagica Lab

posted on by Karen Ressler

Imagica Group announced on Monday that the new company formed by the merger of its subsidiaries Imagica, Imagica West, and IMAGICA Image Works is "IMAGICA Lab." The firm launched on October 1 as part of the holding company's restructuring.

IMAGICA Lab. will cover video production duties, including filming, dubbing, editing, restoration, and streaming. According to the press release, the new name was chosen to symbolize commitment to research and development of video production.

Imagica Robot Holdings announced in April that it would restructure on October 1, after which time it would change its name to Imagica Group. The holding company was established with the name Imagica Robot Holdings after a merger between the Imagica and Robot video production companies in 2006.

Imagica Group's subsidiary Oriental Light and Magic (OLM), the anime studio for Pokémon, and several other firms established a venture capital fund for media content in March. Imagica Group acquired OLM in 2015.

Imagica Robot Holdings also previously partnered with Sumitomo Corporation and the Cool Japan Fund in 2015 to acquire SDI Media, a Los Angeles-based post-production firm that specializes in localizing foreign media.
