posted on by Karen Ressler
Shorts to stream on Mondays, adapt manga bonuses

The official website for the anime adaptation of Satoru Noda's Golden Kamuy manga posted the first video in a series of anime shorts titled "Golden Dōga Gekijō" on Monday. The 25-second episode, titled "Risu-hen" (Squirrel Episode), will be available for one week.

The series will adapt extras that have appeared with the manga in its compiled volumes or in Weekly Young Jump. The first video introduces Asirpa as a girl who loves the wild, then cuts to her telling Sugimoto that they should eat the squirrels she trapped.

Kenshirō Morii directed the short and animation is credited to DMM.futureworks and W-Toon Studio. The website announced that new episodes will "probably" debut every Monday.

The Golden Kamuy television anime premiered on April 9. Crunchyroll is streaming the series with English subtitles as it airs in Japan, and Funimation will stream it with an English dub.

Crunchyroll describes the story:

The story takes place in the mighty Northern field of Hokkaido, the time is in the turbulent late Meiji Era. A post war soldier Sugimoto, aka, “Immortal Sugimoto” was in need of large sums of money for a particular purpose…. What awaited Sugimoto, who stepped into Hokkaido's Gold Rush with dreams of making a fortune, was a tattoo map leading to a hidden treasure based on hints inscribed on the bodies of convicts in Abashiri Prison?! The magnificent nature of Hokkaido vs vicious convicts and the meeting with a pure Ainu girl, Ashiripa!! A survival battle for a hidden treasure hunt begins!

Hitoshi Nanba (Fate/Grand Order: First Order, Gosick, Heroman, Baki the Grappler, We have always been 10 cm apart.) is directing the series at Geno Studio, and Noboru Takagi (Baccano!, Durarara!!, Altair: A Record of Battles, Kuroko's Basketball) is handling the series scripts. Kenichi Ohnuki (Gundam Build Fighters, Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters, Samurai Gun) is designing the characters. Jin Aketagawa is the sound director at Magic Capsule, Hiroshi Nakagawa is the Ainu language supervisor, Eugenio Uzhinin is the Russian language supervisor, and Kenichiro Suehiro is composing the music.
