CalorieMate Taps 1st Foreign Female Pro Shōgi Player for Anime Ad

Polish pro shogi player Karolina Styczynska is the star of her very own web anime. Styczynska, who first learned about shōgi from the Naruto manga, is the subject of a new animated trailer for CalorieMate titled "Susume, Karolina." The ad brings Karolina together with Polish director and illustrator Mateusz Urbanowicz, who previously worked as a background artist for Makoto Shinkai's your name. and Shunji Iwai's The Case of Hana & Alice.
The full anime will premiere online in June. Both Styczynska and Urbanowicz shared their thoughts on the project on its official website. Styczynska wrote that she is moving from Yamanishi to Tokyo to focus 100% on her shogi dreams. She said that after speaking with Urbanowicz for the first time, she found him to be a wonderful artist. Likewise, Urbanowicz wrote that he found Styczynska's hard work refreshing.
Studio Colorido (Typhoon Noruda, Penguin Highway) is animating the web anime.
