TV Show Highlights One Piece Creator's Home, Editor's Dedication

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is known for hosting over-the-top VIP parties at his amusement park-like home. NTV's Ichiryū Yūmeijin no Sokkin kara Manabu Odoroki no Shoseijutsu! Sokking! (Learn Surprising Secrets of Success From Aides to Top Celebrities! Sokking!) television program featured another glimpse of One Piece creator Eiichirō Oda's household on Thursday. A Twitter user posted images from the broadcast that reveal high-end details in Oda's lavish home.

Takuma Naitō, the ninth editor of the One Piece manga, appeared on the program to share a behind-the-scenes look at what his life is like working with Oda. Naitō began working on the series in January 2017. He said having his phone with him at all times is extremely important in working with Oda. He may receive calls from the creator late at night while in bed or even during a date.

This dedication falls in line with reports from previous One Piece editors. Former editor Naoki Kawashima said in 2016 that what he remembers most about when he became the series' editor is Oda telling him to "die for One Piece."

The inconvenience does not seem to bother Naitō, however, and he accepts the calls as part of his job working with an important person like Oda. Naitō advised viewers to never ignore calls from an important person. Naitō said, "I'm a salaryman, but [Oda] is the world's best manga creator," and he added that it would be improper of him to waste the time of such an influential person.
